DUAL ENROLLMENT ENGLISH DEPARTMENT

In DE English, we used what we've learned about effective writing, use of rhetorical skills, audience analysis, and ethics to draft a letter to the BHS Leadership Committee regarding our building's upcoming policy regarding AI use in the classroom. This project offered the opportunity for DE students to see how these various tools from ELA are used in the real world to shape and influence the world we live in. It also provided DE students an opportunity to explore various ethical and learning-boosting ways to use AI while retaining creative, critical, and intellectual rigor throughout the project."

BHS SPANISH STUDENTS BRING LANGUAGE LEARNING TO LIFE

Students in our upper-level Spanish classes are diving into a fun and practical unit focused on foods and parts of the home. They are building a strong vocabulary related to household spaces and items, paired with the grammar skills needed to describe their own homes in Spanish.

As part of this hands-on learning experience, students will soon create a labeled home layout on paper—entirely in Spanish. To wrap up the unit in festive style, they will then bring their designs to life by constructing their own gingerbread house models during the Christmas season.

This creative project blends language, culture, and holiday cheer, allowing students to apply their Spanish skills engagingly and memorably.

10th GRADE ENGLISH UPDATE

Students in 10th Grade English have been hard at work exploring rhetorical appeals—ethos, pathos, and logos—and learning how writers and speakers use these techniques to influence an audience. They’re also incorporating these skills into their own writing.

Our current reading focus is Night by Elie Wiesel. Students are engaging thoughtfully with this powerful memoir, discussing its themes of history, resilience, and human rights with maturity and compassion.

In addition, students are developing their argumentative writing skills by forming strong claims, using evidence, and explaining their reasoning. These skills will soon come together in an argumentative essay connected to Night.

The 10th Grade English team is proud of the effort and growth students are showing as readers, writers, and critical thinkers.
