Principal's Note Principal's Note

Dear Memorial Families,

While nobody in New England likes feeling the summer weather and vibes preparing to leave us, the start of the school year signifies life and energy returning to our school building! We had an amazing first day yesterday! Thank you to Mr. Boria (bumble bee), Mrs. George (leprechaun), Mrs. Harding (parrot), and Ms. LeDoux (Olaf) for greeting our students in fun, inflatable costumes!

Each week, I will send home a newsletter that is your "one stop" for all information from the main office. This will generally be emailed out on Friday afternoons to all families. This way, we can try to minimize the number of emails that hit your inbox throughout the week. If it is not time sensitive, we will hold it until the weekly newsletter goes home so please be sure to look for it!

I am happy to announce that Jessica Gariano will be helping us out at lunch and recess. We are so thankful to have her! I still have two lunch/recess monitor positions available if you or anyone you know is interested in helping us out. The hours are M-F (school days only) from 10:45-1:30 and the rate of pay is $17.43/hr. We are also starting to compile our daily substitute list. Shoot me an email if you would like to chat more!

Enjoy your nice, long weekend. Things will ramp up next week!

Best,

John

Front Office Update Front Office Update

We are very excited to welcome students back to Memorial. Here are a few important notes to get us all off to a good start:

Please look at our calendar below for updated end of year activities.

District Calendar is available on our website - Check out the newly published district calendar for 2024-2025: Calendar

Reminder - No phones or smart watches during school day

CORI requirements - We love having volunteers and mystery readers back in the building. Please note that all adults must have a completed CORI on file before filling volunteer or mystery reader positions and will not be admitted without one. Please plan to come in at least one week before your scheduled volunteer time to complete your paperwork. CORIs are good for 3 years. Please contact the office to see if yours is valid.

Absence, Late Arrival, and Early Dismissal:

Please plan to email your student's teacher, Nurse Morrissey (MorrisseyJ@mersd.org), and the office (schmidtm@mersd.org) with all attendance updates: Absence, Late Arrival, Early dismissal. This will allow us to coordinate with your teachers.

Students who need to be dismissed early, must be released to a parent or guardian from the main office. When possible, please notify the office and your child's teacher ahead of time. When you arrive for early dismissal, your student will be called from the classroom. Please be prepared to show your ID if we are not familiar with you.

My name is Jaclyn Morrissey and I look forward to this school year as your school nurse. I couldn't be more excited to meet you all and want to thank you for welcoming me into this MERSD family. One of my favorite memories of this summer was spending time at the beach with my children. One thing I look forward to and am eager for is a healthy, bright, and positive year.

Best,

Nurse Morrissey

What's the Buzz with Ms. X What's the Buzz with Ms. X

Hi Hornets, I am incredibly excited for the start of this school year! What a celebration yesterday morning was. I am thrilled to see both returning and new faces. I’m Ms. Xiarhos (more easily known as Ms. X) and I’m lucky to be Memorial’s Adjustment Counselor. My role is to support students experiencing a variety of social/emotional challenges that impact their school days. I also contribute to the School Newsletter with thoughts and ideas as well as information from other professionals and experts to support you and your learners throughout the year.

These first few weeks are always a period of adjustment. Sometimes the creation of a parting/ ‘goodbye’ routine can ease any drop off worries or concerns. A special handshake, phrase at car drop off or the turf can ease the separation for both parents and students. Remember, an adjustment period is normal as students begin to learn about their new classrooms, teachers, schedules, and peers.

A big welcome back to our MMES Community!

  • Ms. X

Hello Manchester Memorial PTO Community!

We hope you're all settling into the new school year and enjoying the first few weeks of classes. A big thank you to our amazing staff for their hard work and dedication in ensuring a wonderful start to the year. We are truly grateful for their commitment to our children's education and well-being.

As we dive into the school year, we want to remind all parents to update their information in the school directory or join if they haven't already. The directory is a great way to stay connected and informed about school events and activities, and is the only way other parents have access to your contact info for birthday party, play dates, etc.

It promises to be an exciting game, and we hope to see many of you there, cheering on our local team.
