26-27 Lower School News - Week 8
October 9, 2026

From the Director of Lower School
October 9 2026
What a week on the Hilltop! We kicked things off on Sunday by celebrating Episcopal Schools Sunday with our church community, a beautiful reminder of the faith and fellowship that make St. Luke’s so special. Some of us also had the opportunity to spend the day with beloved children’s author Drew Daywalt while supporting the San Antonio Public Library Foundation—a wonderful celebration of literacy and the joy of reading!
And then came our four-day school week. Somehow, we managed to pack in so much love, fur, school spirit, and yes, I promise, plenty of learning!
On Tuesday, we celebrated one of my absolute favorite St. Luke’s traditions, the Blessing of the Pets! There is something so special about seeing our community come together with our furry (and not-so-furry) family members to celebrate the unconditional love and joy they bring to our lives. It is a beautiful reminder of God's love for all His creation and the blessings, big and small, that surround us every day.
The Tiger spirit was also impossible to contain this week! Just take a look at the video below of our first graders practicing their pep rally cheers in the playground. Their excitement says it all.
Oh, how we love St. Luke’s!
We wrapped up our week with one of the most spirited non-Fridays you could imagine! We gathered to bless our athletes, celebrate our fall sports teams, and enjoy a little friendly competition between our adults and Middle School volleyball Tigers. Our adorable Tiny Tiger Cheer Teams made special appearances, and the cheering reached a whole new level during our grade-level cheer competition. A huge congratulations to our very spirited third graders, who took home the win!
Weeks like this remind me that the magic of St. Luke’s is found in so much more than what happens inside our classrooms. It is in our traditions, our faith, our friendships, and the joy of being part of a community where everyone belongs.
Watch the video below to see the winning cheer in action!
Four days. Countless memories. One incredible Tiger family. ❤️💙🐯

The St. Luke's Way - Shoutouts
Cates fosters community wherever she goes! Whether she is in the classroom, the hallway or the playground, her big smile and bigger heart, all tigers have a friend in Cates. She is exceptionally friendly and inclusive; she always invites others to play with her. Her love of laughter and music brings people together. For example, when she started singing "Boston" in Innovation Lab, and the whole class joined in as a community to sing. Thank you Cates for sharing your superpowers with us! - Mrs. Weller
Rowan demonstrates community by helping others, sharing, and showing kindness to all friends. She works together with her peers and cares for everyone making our classroom a happy and welcoming place. - Ms. Esparza
PS. Cates and Rowan wanted their picture taken together.
Belle is a wonderful example of citizenship in our classroom! She consistently takes initiative to make sure her tablemates have the supplies they need, and even goes out of her way to help others put away their Chromebooks at the end of the day. Belle demonstrates the St. Luke’s Way through her willingness to help others prepare for class. - Ms. Eckert
Even though she is new to the St. Luke's Community, she is already showing what community looks like. In Spanish class, she helps and supports her classmates and leads by example. She is willing to help the teacher and take on challenges with a positive and joyful attitude. - Mrs. Herff
What stands out most, though, is his genuine gift for celebrating the success of others. I often hear him saying, “Way to go!” or “Great job!” when a friend succeeds or is recognized for making a good choice. Myles takes great joy in encouraging those around him, and his kind words help make our classroom a more positive and supportive place to be. He is truly a wonderful member of our class community! - Mrs. Ray
This elementary tiger really understands what it means to not only be a valued member of her classroom community, but she also values and appreciates others. Her classroom family is very important to her, and she constantly puts others first before her individual needs. She's usually the first to help others, including her teacher. This past week, her class was working on an important landform lap book activity which involved a lot of glue. Before she even started her project, she volunteered to help her teacher pass out Social Studies supplies such as manilla folders and glue bottles. She wanted to make sure that every classmate was prepared before she even sat down to work on her assignment. This is a beautiful example of how she leads her classroom community with genuine kindness and heart. - Ms. Lehman
Mia Norinski loves St. Luke's Episcopal School! She shows initiative and community spirit in her "can do" attitude. Mia's kindness and encouragement to all, and the way she takes care of our classroom, whether by picking up trash, sharing toys at center time, passing out supplies when it is time to do classwork, truly embody the idea of community and reflect her servant leader's heart. Everyone in Early Childhood-girl or boy, regardless of whether they are in her class or even another grade level-matters to Mia, and she likes to make them all feel like they are important and special. Every school community needs a scholar like Mia, as she inspires everyone to be the best they can be! - Mrs. McIntire
This Tiger is new to SLES, but he embraced the idea of community from his very first week in Kindergarten. He frequently greets his class with "You guys are the best friends I could ever want!" and he shows that appreciation by treating each classmate with warmth, courtesy, and cooperation. If someone is playing alone or looks like they might be feeling lonely, he is quick to reach out to them because to him, everyone should feel like they are important. He shows affection and love for every one of his teachers, gives the best hugs, and frequently expresses-in word and action-how happy he is to be a part of our St. Luke's family. His kindness toward all makes everyone truly feel that they matter! - Mrs. McIntire

🐯💙 Meet Maisie, Bob’s FIRST Weekend Guest! 💙🐯
Congratulations to Maisie for being our very first student to earn the opportunity to take Bob home for the weekend! 🎉 She demonstrated what it means to be safe, respectful, and responsible and is exactly the kind of person our new furry friend wants to spend his weekend with! 🐾
We can’t wait to hear all about their adventures together! Be sure to take lots of pictures 📸 because we’ll be excited to see what Bob and Maisie get up to!
Elementary Girls Lacrosse Program Inquiry
Girls lacrosse is a fast-paced, non-contact sport that builds confidence, coordination, agility, and camaraderie. And with many players in San Antonio learning the game together, no previous lacrosse experience is necessary!
The girls lacrosse season runs in the Spring, and we’ll be sharing more information at a later date. In the meantime, if your child is interested in playing, please fill out the interest form below!
This year will serve as a pilot season for girls lacrosse at St. Luke’s. We’re excited to see our students embrace the sport, build a team, and grow together. If the program is a successful fit for our community, we look forward to continuing to build and offer lacrosse at St. Luke’s in the years ahead.
Practices and games will not conflict with other St. Luke’s sports. Games will be held on weekends, allowing our Tigers to participate in multiple sports throughout the year.
We can’t wait to see our Tigers take the field!
Dress Uniform (1st-4th)
On Wednesdays and other special occasions, our students elevate their everyday uniform by wearing what we call Dress Uniform. These days are an opportunity to teach students that how we present ourselves can reflect respect—for our school, our traditions, our community, and the occasion. Wearing Dress Uniform also helps students practice responsibility, attention to detail, and pride in representing St. Luke’s.
Please review the images below (or the guide above) to ensure all Dress Uniform guidelines are followed.
