A Note from Ms. Martin

Pierce Families,

Happy Friday!

iReady Assessment: This week our 3-5 students finished their iReady testing in math and reading. The K-2 students have one additional week to finish up. Teachers and staff utilize this data to form their instructional groups in order to personalize instruction. We are working toward proficiency/mastery in all areas and have such wonderful support to do so!

Happy Constitution Day! Constitution day is September 17th, but Pierce students learned about it either today or will on Monday. Constitution day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution.

Count Day is coming up on October 4th! What is Count Day? It's when all public schools in Michigan tally the number of students attending their schools. This count information is critical to districts, because each student translates into state funding. State and local aid is based on the number of students legally enrolled. Please ensure your child is at school and on time - on Count Day - and every day!

The Fun Run is coming! Please read the information below about the Fun Run and how you can get involved!

Pierce Street update: A crew has begun phase three of the project, which is the replacement of the street. Work will begin with the concrete curb on either side of the road, then placement of the initial layers of the asphalt road, and finally the replacement of the driveway approaches. After this work is complete, Pierce Street from 14 Mile Road to East Southlawn will be reopened to local traffic only. I want to thank everyone for being so patient and understanding as we are navigating this construction!

After School Classes: See information below. Register as soon as possible as spots fill quickly!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Kate Martin, Principal

  • Safety is KEY!
  • The Edgewood Loop is only for 4th-5th graders
  • The Bird Loop is only for 3rd graders
  • No other students should be using the car line loops. Parents with students in grades JK-2 must park to pick up their child(ren).
  • When you are in the loop:
    • Pull all the way forward. Do not stop just because you see your child. Pull forward.
    • We have tight loops with a small amount of space. Wait for the line to move. Do not pass others. Be patient.
    • Do not park and get out of your car. Stay in your car at all times.
    • Students must get in the car on the sidewalk side only.

Thank you to the PTA for an amazing Carnival! It was so much fun and a great opportunity to come together as a community. Thank you all for attending!

Special thanks to Jessica Jacobs, Karoline Kenville and ALL our volunteers for helping to make this year’s event such a great kickoff to the school year for our students and families.

Around the School Around the School

You might notice that we have "Pierce Positive Office Notes" now! This is a fun, encouraging form that teachers can fill out when they want to recognize students who are following the Pierce Path. All of our students are fantastic, and we love sharing when they've done something uniquely kind, responsible, respectful or cooperative.

  • Pierce attendance is reported using the google doc found below. If your child will NOT be in school for any reason, please complete the form before 8:49am (the earlier the better) to let us know of their absence or tardy.
  • The absences reported are checked against the teacher attendance lists. If a child is not in school and the parent has not communicated the absence, the school will call your home or your place of employment (If we are unable to reach a parent, we will also call others on the emergency form). THIS IS IMPORTANT! Please ensure that you report absences on a timely basis so that follow-up calls from the school office is not necessary.

When Entering the Building...

All visitors to the building (who will be leaving the front office) MUST bring their ID with them to sign in. This is a new requirement within all BPS schools. We will scan your ID and it will check on the sex offender registry. Then, once cleared, we will print a visitor nametag which must be worn and clearly visible. Thank you for helping us to make Pierce a safer environment for your child(ren)!
