Dear Abington School District Community,

Throughout the past month, our Abington School District teachers and staff, as well as our students, have been propelled forward by a sense of purpose and determination. This is the season where our community's collective efforts come into full view, as April is often busy with state testing, end-of-year activities, celebrations, and important planning for what lies ahead. Beyond just a packed schedule, it is a critical time in the school year.

Recently, joining me and Board President, Dr. Melissa Mowry, at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit's annual Legislative Breakfast was Caitlyn Le, a junior and this year's Student School Board Member, and Superintendent Student Advisory Council representative for ASHS, Natalie Arcos, who is a senior headed to Princeton University next year. Both of these students have represented their peers — and our high school — well over the past year, and I have no doubt they will continue to serve as a positive reflection of our school community for years to come.

I thank our educators for continuing to make a difference in the lives of all of our students, especially as we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week beginning on May 4. As the pace in the last stretch of the school year quickens, the impact of our teachers deepens. Each interaction, each decision, and each moment of support for our students matters greatly.

Let's move forward together as a school community with clarity, focus, and a shared commitment to finishing strong!

Please enjoy some photos below from our annual Arts Fest, which was held at the end of March in our Administration Building. The talents of our students from K-12 are truly impressive, as are the efforts of our Art Department for putting together this exhibition every year for our broader community to enjoy.

Regards,

Dr. Jeffrey Fecher

Superintendent of Schools

One ASD, One Future: Open House Recap

Thank you to everyone who joined us on April 21 for our Open House event, where we reviewed the initial designs for the new Abington Middle School!

Community members joined us at the Little Theater, as well as on the YouTube livestream, to hear a presentation from our building architects, engineers and project consultants. Attendees were able to share their feedback via an online survey, and there was an opportunity to submit questions for the presenters.

If you were not able to attend the event, the presentation and video recording are available on our dedicated project website, OneASDOneFuture.org, where you can also find information about how to submit questions and how to subscribe to the District's email listserv to receive future updates.

Zonar MyView Bus Tracking App Now Available

As of April 2026, the Zonar MyView app is now available to all Abington School District parents and guardians for tracking their student's bus routes to and from school each day.

MyView is an innovative app for mobile devices that provides parents and guardians with real-time location updates and details about the school buses transporting their children daily. MyView prioritizes safety for students on the bus and the security and privacy of their information in the app, requiring a district access code, a school bus or route number, and a student’s ID number to access data in the app. The app does not access student records or capture personal information.

The app is available to download for Apple and Android users. Instructions for downloading and setting up a student’s bus information are available on the ASD website.

Moving forward, for the majority of bus delays, in order to ensure greater efficiency than the previous method of sending emails, this will be the main platform through which the Abington School District Transportation Department will communicate updates to parents/guardians. Parents/guardians should make sure they enable push notifications on their mobile devices in order to receive real-time updates.

ASD Receives 15th Consecutive National Recognition for Championing Music Education

For the 15th consecutive year, Abington School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) Award from The NAMM Foundation for outstanding support and commitment to music education. Now in its 27th year, the program continues to spotlight and celebrate school districts and individual schools across the United States for their exemplary dedication to music education and their ongoing efforts to ensure equitable access to music learning as part of a well-rounded education.

The award reaches K-12 communities nationwide, offering both recognition and momentum to strengthen and expand music education programs. In 2026, more than 1,000 school districts and schools—including public, private, charter and parochial institutions—have been recognized for outstanding achievement in providing access to high-quality music education.

Recipients of the 2026 BCME Awards were selected through a comprehensive application and review process that evaluates key indicators, including funding, instructional time, participation rates, facilities and community support. To uphold the program’s rigor and credibility, all applications were independently reviewed and verified by WolfBrown, a leading research and evaluation firm specializing in education and the arts.

AbingTHON Students visiting Mr. Garcia's class at Highland, where they were presented with a banner for the gymnasium.

Congratulations to Mr. Garcia's class at Highland Elementary School, who were this year's winners of Coins for Kids, organized by the high school's AbingTHON group, which raises money for pediatric cancer-focused organizations in our area. Mr. Garcia's class raised more than $300 in honor of one of their classmates who is currently fighting their own battle against pediatric cancer at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

As the class in the district who raised the most money, the students were treated to a pizza party delivered by the high schoolers, who in turn were welcomed with handwritten cards and posters to hang in the gymnasium during their culminating AbingTHON event. After a year's worth of fundraising efforts, the 300+ Abington Senior High School students ultimately raised more than $72,000 for pediatric cancer treatment, research and support.
