Student Life at SMS Student Life at SMS

This week we highlight some of the amazing work that has taken place in our Outdoor Pursuits elective class. As you can see below, our students have recently had the opportunity to embrace their status as future Bowmen and current Archers by learning the basics of archery. Students are taught how the parts of a bow work, the best ways to aim and hit your target, and how to smoothly release arrows for accuracy. Many of our students say that this is one of their favorite activities of the year.

In addition to archery, the Outdoor Pursuits students recently completed a unit on photography. Students were challenged to get outside and capture images using certain photography principles. The students created some incredible work that was shared with staff recently and we are so proud of their hard work and learning.

Dear Archers,

Welcome to Trimester 3 of the 2023 - 2024 school year. This Monday marks the first day of Trimester 3 and as we reach the final chunk of the school year we continue to see our students excel and our staff work towards creating opportunities for success with our students.

We have introduced a new accommodation during Flex periods, beginning this past week. We now have Teachers and Instructional Assistants who are holding test makeup sessions for students who may have been absent with an assessment was given in class. This opportunity will allow students to make up any missing work to demonstrate their content knowledge, while also allowing students to be in class rather than being pulled out of a class to make up an assessment, potentially falling further behind. We are excited about this opportunity as well as the other intervention and extension opportunities that are in the works for students at SMS. Finding new ways to support our students is something that our team is passionate about and we look forward to finding other successful ways of helping students in their learning.

Lastly, a reminder that Spring Break is approaching and will occur from March 25 - 29. During this time the main office will be closed and teachers may or may not respond to emails. We hope that you have an opportunity to enjoy this break.
