OT PT AT and Me
Tools, tricks, tips and fun ways to improve function
Happy May 2025!
We did it! Thank you for all of your support for OT, PT and AT services. We really appreciate all of you!
In this edition, we celebrate the end of the school year and share ideas for summer fun that continues to support progress and goals.
Congratulations are in order!
Congratulations to Denise Crabtree who celebrates completing 25 years of physical therapy services to CISD. Denise started in 2000 when there were 40 CISD campuses. Here are a few memories from Denise. "During my 25 years with Conroe ISD, the District has almost doubled the number of campuses and enrolled students. I have seen the move from writing session notes by hand and sending home hand coded IEPs to providing electronic records. I remember when diagnosticians needed dollys or wagons to move student folders between campuses. Students that I evaluated as 3 year olds in 2000 -2003 have aged out of school programs.
I have watched my own children go through Conroe ISD schools, graduate, and go on to further their education. Through the many changes, I remain proud to be an employee of a District that focuses on the needs of students, provides excellent support and a great education".
We also celebrate:
Maria Keith, COTA, who has been with the district for 22 years.
Mandi Fowlkes Magner, OT, who celebrates 21 years with the district.
Meri Laydevant, OT, who celebrates 20 years with the district.
Wahoo! Congratulations and thank you for all you do!

Shoe tying
Summer is a great time to work on sequential tasks such as shoe tying. There are so many adapted techniques to use to complete shoe tying. Here is one technique that many students find helpful. Remember that once you have the lace tip into the shoe hole, you do not need to remove it. Just leave it there and you are ready for the next time.
Communication
It is so simple to operate.
sensory input
Sensory input can be provided through a rocking chair, hammock, or sensory canoe / Peapod such as the one pictured here. Peapods come in different sizes. Students can either sit in it or snuggle down to have more input.
Gross motor fun
Summer is a great time to build pillow and cushion obstacle courses, walk tape lines applied to the floor and play games to improve throwing and kicking.
Here is a site that shares some fun gross motor activities.
