Independent Study Agreements & Expectations for All

Independent study requires that the School, Parents, and Students all fulfill their role to ensure student success. We have a master agreement that outlines the expectations that have been agreed to by all parties. Signed master agreements are required to participate in the independent study program. Below are some key responsibilities for each party.

To ensure your child is successful, you have agreed to be the Learning Coach. Here are some things that you will be doing in that role. This is a critical piece of the program. Please reach out if you have questions or need further support in understanding the role and responsibilities.

We want to help all students succeed in the program.

Attendance, ROA Dates, and Grading Windows

Independent study students receive their attendance for submitting their work on time! Please help ensure that your child is completing assignments and submitting them by the due date to be given attendance credit. Record of Assignments (ROAs) are created every two weeks and show your child what must be completed to earn their attendance credit. Please note that assignments must be quality work for credit. Your help is crucial for the success of your student. Please follow up at your weekly check in with your child's teacher.

Schoology & LAUSD Email

Students will find their online FlexPoint curriculum and assignments in their Schoology courses. Students are expected to go to their courses daily to see updates, find assignments, and get feedback on submitted work. In the curriculum there are lessons and practice to prepare you child to be successful on the assignments they submit. Going through the coursework will lead to success.

Email is one important way we communicate with parents and students. All students should make it a habit to check their LAUSD email daily.

How to Get Involved

There are so many ways to get involved and connected at BEVA. Parents and students can be a part of our English Language Advisory Council (ELAC) or our School Site Council (SSC). These groups meet monthly to discuss the needs of the school and come up with ideas for student success and to take BEVA to the next level.

There are parent workshops offered that provide an opportunity to learn and grow with other parents and to connect with other families.

BEVA hopes to have a student and parent representative for every class. Maybe you would like to step in and participate in this role? Please let your homeroom teacher know!

We would love to have you volunteer to chaperone one of our in person field trips. You will need to be approved through our LAUSD system in order to attend. This takes about 30 days, so apply now! LAUSD Volunteer

You can stay up to date on our Web Page, Parent Page, BEVA ACE page, and Parent Portal. We also have a monthly parent letter. Communication from BEVA will also come through messaging, phone calls, and email.

⭐ Please make sure you have your current information up to date so you can be reached.
