Ryan Elementary School Update
January 2024

Lead By Example Kick Off
We are excited to introduce our Lead By Example system at Ryan Elementary! During the first week back from break, we taught behavior expectations to all students across the building. Our goal is to cultivate great leadership qualities in all our students, emphasizing responsibility, respect, safety, and kindness.
Students will actively demonstrate these leadership traits and can earn individual Lead By Example Tickets, which will be entered into a weekly drawing for a classwide celebration. These tickets count as 1 point toward our school-wide goal of 1,000 points. Keep an eye out for your child bringing these tickets home to celebrate their achievements with you.
Additionally, classrooms will have the opportunity to earn a Class Compliment when the entire class exhibits these leadership traits. Class Compliments count as 20 points toward our school-wide goal.
All students will be working toward a schoolwide goal of 1,000 points. Once this goal is reached, the students will vote on a schoolwide celebration event. Let's work together to achieve this milestone!

Aaron Barrington
My student of the month is Aaron Barrington. Aaron is always willing to help with anything and everything. He is always asking if there is something he can do to help me, other students, or our class. Aaron is a great friend and loves to work with others. He is very kind and a great leader that leads by example. He takes responsibility by doing what he is supposed to even when no one is watching. He is always making sure we have our trash taken care of at the end of the day and makes sure chromebooks are picked up. He also gives gentle reminders when other students don't have their materials where they are supposed to be. He takes pride in keeping our class a clean place and wants to make sure everyone feels welcome.

Classroom Volunteer Form Deadline
Anyone interested in volunteering in the classroom must submit the volunteer form by April 1st. This will allow us enough time to process the applications. If you have already submitted a form this year, you will not need to do so again until next year.
Early Student Pick-Up Instructions
If you need to pick your student up early from school, anytime after 2:30, please park on the road and not in the drive close to the school. Our buses use the drive closest to the school, and you will not be able to get out until the buses leave.
Delayed Start Drop-off
On delayed start days, our dedicated staff come together in teams to engage in learning and planning aimed at ensuring student success. Please note that classes will begin at 8:20. For the safety of your child, we kindly request that you refrain from dropping them off before 7:35, as adult supervision will not be available until that time. Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students.

Fury Friends are Family
By: Graycen Miller and Aloni Cardenias
As the students and staff of Ryan Elementary prepared to leave for Christmas vacation, they were already in the holiday giving spirit. The focus was on giving to the animals cared for at the Branch County Humane Society. An employee from the shelter brought a four legged fury friend named Rusty to meet our school family. Some items donated by our school included food, kitty litter, bedding, and more. The shelter relies on the community’s kindness as they give animals a safe place to wait until they are adopted. Other services provided include veterinarian care, medications, rehoming services, and much more. Another need talked about, especially during the winter months, is the donation of shelters for animals living outside.
There are other special ways you can get involved! Did you know that you can host your birthday party at the Humane Society? Instead of bringing gifts, guests can bring donations for the shelter and animals. Those attending the party will have an opportunity to play with some of the animals housed at the shelter. If you don’t want to wait for your birthday, you can volunteer your time whenever it is best for you! It really is a WIN WIN! The overall goal of the shelter is to make sure all the animals, big or small, in our county are loved and cared for! Feel free to contact the BCHS at 517-639-4426 to set up a time to help out or drop off a donation! The animals will thank you for it and so will we!
Smiles on Wheels a Huge Success
We are delighted to share the wonderful experience our students had with Smiles on Wheels, who visited our school on January 18th and 19th. During their visit, 27 students received a variety of services including dental education, assessments, cleaning, fluoride treatment, and sealants. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to prioritize their oral health and learn valuable lessons about dental care. We are grateful for the support and expertise provided by the Smiles on Wheels team.
