Evanston Recycling Truck Art Design Competition: King Arts 6th Grade Winners Evanston Recycling Truck Art Design Competition: King Arts 6th Grade Winners

Congratulations to King Arts 6th Grade students August, Beatrice, and Lailah, whose original graphic design (image above) will adorn a City of Evanston recycling truck in the new year!

The students’ design received the most votes in the Recycling Truck Student Art Design Competition, hosted by the City and District 65. In honor of America Recycles Day (November 15), the annual contest challenged students to create original artwork illustrating the dangers of putting batteries in the recycling bin. Keep an eye out for the newly wrapped truck around Evanston in 2025!

D65 Sustainability / Climate Action Plan Development D65 Sustainability / Climate Action Plan Development

Our Goal: By May 30 2025, a thoroughly vetted district-wide sustainability program plan will be presented to the D65 School Board. The plan will be aligned to City of Evanston and Village of Skokie sustainability program plans and District 65 strategic priorities will be included in D65 school board policy as a commitment to advancing D65 sustainable practices.

Our working group has completed 4 team meeting since kicking off in October. So far we've developed our Vision of Sustainability, Categories of Focus for our plan, our Guiding Principles and started building our plan including:

  • Goals
  • Recommended strategies
  • Measures / indicators of progress
  • Our Progress so far
  • Opportunities to Partner with Community

Our working group will continue building the plan through the end of February. In March, stay tuned as we will seek feedback on the draft plan.
