Spooky STEM Activity

Students read the book Aggie and the Ghost in Library class. Then they discussed what makes a good friend and what friendship means to them. They made a ghost with friendship goals on it and launched it into the air! What a fun, hands on activity that taught students about friendship.

Student Safety

The Greece Central School District is committed to ensuring that all students have equal access to education, and partnering with our families to keep students safe is our top priority. Please take a moment to confirm that Greece Central has your current emergency contact information so we can make sure your child is cared for if you are ever unavailable. This includes an updated list of all trusted individuals authorized to pick up your child from school.

To protect our students’ privacy and security, the district follows clear, strict protocols whenever outside agencies—including law enforcement, social services, healthcare providers, or immigration officials—request student information, school access or student release. In accordance with federal law, our schools ensure every child in our community has equal access to a quality education, regardless of citizenship or immigration status, and we take all legally allowable steps to safeguard our students while they are in our care.

The easiest way to review and update your family’s contact details is through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you have not set up your account yet, please complete the portal registration form and submit it to your child’s school. Once we verify your information, we will email you an activation code to set up your password. If you need assistance, please contact the district’s Student Registration Office at (585) 966-2230.

  • Please note: To protect student privacy, Parent Portal access is limited to legal guardians, and your email address must match the records we have on file. If you have multiple children in Greece Central schools, all of your students will automatically link to your single account once registered.

Thank you for your continued trust and partnership.

Shared Vision and Goal-Setting

Our entire school community is locked onto one clear target: every single student at Lakeshore can grow, learn, and succeed. This shared vision guides every goal we set and every lesson we plan. When teachers, families, and community groups row in the same direction, our students shine brighter.

Family Connection: Chat with your child about one goal they have for this week, and share a goal of your own. Show them that adults are always growing, too!

Continuous Improvement

We love to learn, and that means we are always looking for ways to do better. By constantly reviewing our programs and listening to your feedback, we make small, deliberate tweaks—like refining daily routines or boosting after-school clubs. Over time, these small adjustments add up to massive growth for our students.

Personalized Reading Conferences

Reading is our absolute priority. To make sure your child gets exactly what they need, every student participates in regular, short, 1-on-1 and/or small group reading check-ins with their teacher. We track this through our interactive reading system, SchoolPace, which helps us know exactly what skill your child is ready to master next.

Real-Time Instructional Adjustments

Every week during our teacher team meetings, we look closely at which academic skills students have mastered and which ones are still causing confusion. If a group of students is stuck on a concept, our teachers immediately collaborate to shift their instructional strategies and re-teach the material in a fresh way. No student falls through the cracks.

Little Cans, BIG Kindness!!

Our Lakeshore Can Shack is located right outside our school building, and we're turning those empty bottles and cans into something pretty special! All proceeds from our collection will benefit the Giselle DeLorme Heart of Kindness Foundation, an organization dedicated to honoring Gigi's beautiful legacy of kindness, compassion, and generosity. The foundation helps provide financial assistance and comfort to families who have experienced the loss of a child, while also helping children participate in youth sports regardless of their families' financial circumstances. So, don't throw away those returnables! Drop them in our Can Shack and help us turn something small into something meaningful for others. It's one more way our Lakeshore community can make BIG waves of kindness!

Actionable Data

We don't guess here at Lakeshore. We check! We look closely at real patterns, like daily attendance, reading growth, and family feedback, to make sure our programs are working. This information helps us quickly see what's going well and where we need to add extra help so no student gets left behind.

Family Connection: Take a moment this weekend to celebrate a small win with your child. Whether it’s a great attendance week or a breakthrough on a hard homework assignment, your child is bound to feel so proud of themselves!

Habit 2 — Begin With the End in Mind

We celebrated Habit #1, Be Proactive, this past week as a school community. Our students did a terrific job reflecting on the ways that they have demonstrated being proactive at school and at home. As we get ready for November, our new focus will be Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind. This habit is all about goal setting and planning ahead. We teach students to picture what success looks like before they start a project, a task, or a new school month. Thanks for your support in reinforcing this at home with your children!

"WIN Time" — What I Need

If you hear your child talk about WIN Time, here is what it means: What I Need. This is a dedicated daily block where students break into small groups, work independently, and/or work with the teacher. No new material is taught during WIN Time; instead, kids get hyper-focused practice on exactly what they need—whether that's extra help, practice, or advanced enrichment projects.

Inclusive Decision-Making

Your voice matters here at Lakeshore! In a true Community School, families, students, and staff all help steer the ship. Whether you are filling out a quick feedback survey, sharing ideas at a meeting, or helping plan an event, your unique perspective directly shapes our school priorities.

  • 📣 Heads Up: Look out for upcoming school feedback surveys and planning invitations. We need your voice to shape Lakeshore’s future!

The 7 Habits for Kids

The engine behind our leadership culture is The 8 Habits. These simple, powerful principles give our students a shared language for making smart choices and working beautifully with others. Here is a quick look at the road map our kids are learning:

🧩 The 8 Habits Quick Reference:

  1. Be Proactive (You're in charge of you)

  2. Begin with the End in Mind (Have a plan)

  3. Put First Things First (Work before play)

  4. Think Win-Win (Everyone can win)

  5. Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood (Listen before you speak)

  6. Synergize (Together is better)

  7. Sharpen the Saw (Balance feels best)

  8. Find Your Voice (and help others to find theirs)

Trusting Relationships

At Lakeshore, strong, caring relationships are the foundation for everything else. When students trust their teachers, families trust the school, and staff trust each other, magic happens. This deep sense of safety allows kids to take learning risks, raise their hands when they are confused, and know they truly matter.

  • 👪 Family Connection: Ask your child tonight: "Who is one adult at school you always feel safe talking to?" Celebrating that connection builds their confidence!

What Does SCEP Mean?

Many of you may already know that Lakeshore Elementary School has a very specific School Improvement Plan, called a School Comprehensive Education Plan (SCEP). This means that we have set some very specific goals and action steps to help us close the gap between all of our students and our Students with Disabilities and Black and African American students on the new York State ELA and Math Assessments. This year, our school roadmap is built around three clear, high-impact goals to ensure every single child succeeds:

  1. Accelerating reading growth for every student.

  2. Teaching emotional regulation and self-control tools.

  3. Giving teachers collaborative time to use student progress data to customize daily lessons.

We will be sharing updates about how we're doing with our goals and action steps this year. Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions throughout the year!

Our School Lighthouse Vision

Our school motto is, "Shine Bright, Lakeshore!" We are actively working toward becoming a certified "Lighthouse School"—an important milestone showing that student leadership and living the 8 Habits is deeply present in our school culture. You will see it when students greet you as you arrive at school, lead classroom routines, set goals about their learning, and then track their own academic growth. Ask your child: "How did you Shine Bright and show leadership today at Lakeshore?"

Who Makes Up a Community School?

Teamwork makes the dream work! Our Community School strategy works because of a vibrant network of partnerships. School staff, family members, local business owners, youth mentors, and community organizations all work hand-in-hand. Every single partner plays a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming web of support around your child.

Everyone Can Be a Leader

Leadership looks different on everyone! It might look like a student presenting on the morning announcements, a student safety patrol, a child who is quietly helping a friend on the playground, organizing their desk, or taking initiative at home. We don't look for one "type" of leader; we celebrate the unique strengths every single child brings to our community! During the month of October, we are working on Being Proactive with all of our students. Please discuss ways that your child can be leaders of themselves and of others when it comes to being proactive at school and at home. We can't wait to see all of our little leaders showing some great examples of being proactive this month!

What is Leader in Me?

Lakeshore is proud to be a Leader in Me school. That means that that we see and cultivate the talents, skills, and genius of every single student so that they can truly be leaders of themselves and of others every single day! We see all of our students as leaders whether they are in school, out and about in the community, or in their own homes. Through explicit instruction and practice with the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, students at Lakeshore learn important life skills that help them to take responsibility for their choices, set goals, work well with others, solve problems, listen to different perspectives, and advocate for themselves and what they believe in. These habits are woven into all of our our classroom routines, school-wide expectations, and everyday conversations so students can practice leadership in real life ways. Our goal is to help every Lakeshore student build the confidence, character, and skills they need to belong, achieve, succeed—and SHINE BRIGHT!

Get to know our Community Schools Team!

Lakeshore is once again part of our Community Schools strategy here in Greece. Our goal is to provide integrated support, services and opportunities to students and families, working together for a stronger and healthier Lakeshore community where students and families feel seen and heard, and where students have access to all they need to experience academic, social, and emotional success!

Marianette Cintron and Katy Cooper will be working together at Lakeshore to collaborate and encourage community engagement. They look forward to getting to know our Lakeshore students and families! In the meantime, here is a little bit of information about them...

Our Lighthouse Promise

Here at Lakeshore, we use the Lighthouse Promise to ensure that students are being their best selves and making great choices. Students will have lots of discussion with their classes these next few weeks about what it means to carry out the Lakeshore Promise every single day, showing that they can be leaders of themselves and of others. We are excited to support our students with this, and we are even more excited to celebrate by awarding them Promise Pay when their class demonstrates the Lighthouse Promise in action! Stay tuned for news about school-wide incentives and celebrations linked to earning Promise Pay!
