Primary School Weekly Update
October 23, 2026
Principal's message
What a wonderful week of learning at the Primary School! You can certainly feel that fall is in the air! 🍂 Our students have been busy learning, exploring, and discovering new things throughout the school. Kindergarten is having fun learning all about pumpkins, while our preschool students had a wonderful opportunity to explore and discover leaves. A special thank-you to Norm, our amazing maintenance person, for helping make this experience possible for our youngest learners! First and second grade students continue to strengthen their reading and writing skills as they grow into confident readers and writers. It is always a joy to see the curiosity, excitement, and growth happening throughout our school!
As we move further into the fall season, we know this is also the time of year when colds and viruses begin to spread. If your child is absent, please remember to email the Primary Office at primaryoffice@lunenburgschools.net to report the absence and provide the reason your child will be out.
I would also like to take a moment to remind everyone that attendance matters! Being at school consistently is important for your child's learning, growth, and success. When students miss school, they can miss valuable instruction and classroom experiences. If your child has missed more than seven days in a quarter, you will receive a letter from me regarding their attendance. Thank you for partnering with us to make sure our students are here and ready to learn as consistently as possible.
If you plan to volunteer at any point throughout the school year, please make sure you have a current CORI on file. Volunteers must have a current CORI clearance in order to participate in school activities. Please do not wait until the last minute to complete this process, as it can take time. We truly appreciate our wonderful volunteers and all the ways they support our students and school community!
Please be sure to read the section below regarding our upcoming Veterans Day recognition. We would love the opportunity to honor as many veterans in our school and local community as possible, and we appreciate your help in making this a meaningful celebration. We are also excited to kick off our first Spirit Week of the school year next week! Please see the attached flyer for the daily themes and details. We can't wait to see our students show their school spirit and join in the fun!
Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership, support, and trust. It is such a privilege to watch our students learn, grow, and make new discoveries each day. I hope you and your families enjoy a wonderful fall weekend, and we look forward to another great week together at the Primary School!
Warmly,
Principal Squier
Important Bus Information:
We need your help keeping our bus rides safe and comfortable. Several gel-filled squishy toys have burst on buses recently, creating significant messes and additional work for our drivers.
There are also safety concerns. Reports of skin irritation and injuries from leaking toys have prompted concern from consumer safety advocates. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises avoiding skin contact with filling from burst toys and warns that toys exposed to heat can cause serious burns.
Please keep squishy toys that contain gel or liquid and can break open at home. Please also remind your child to follow the driver’s directions and put items away when asked. If your child uses a sensory tool as part of an individual support plan, please contact the school so we can work together to identify an appropriate option for the bus.
Thank you for helping keep our students safe and supporting our bus drivers.

Annual Character Parade:
Our annual Character Parade is coming up on Friday, October 30th! This is a student-only event, and we are excited to see the creativity and imagination our students bring to the day.
A few friendly reminders as you help your child prepare:
- No Masks, weapons, face make-up, all costumes must be school appropriate (no blood or scary characters)
Costumes and costume pieces should be easy for children to put on and take off independently over their regular school clothes.
Please avoid sending in accessories or costume pieces that children cannot manage on their own.
While we will do our best to help students keep track of their belongings, we cannot be responsible for costume pieces or accessories that are left behind at school.
Veteran's Day Assembly
🇺🇸 Veterans Day Assembly – Honoring Our Heroes
We are busy preparing for our upcoming Veterans Day assembly to be held on November 10th, and we would love your help in recognizing the special military members in our school community. If you have a family member who is currently serving in the military or is a veteran and would like them to join us as a Guest of Honor, please complete the assembly link below.
This event is open to families, and we look forward to coming together as a school community to honor and thank those who have served and continue to serve our country.
October Breakfast and Lunch Menus
School Day
The school day starts at 9:00 AM and ends at 3:20 PM. It is very important that your child be on time for school each day. He/she must be in their classroom at 9:00 AM for attendance. The beginning of each day is important to set the tone and to make sure your child feels they are a part of the classroom learning community. Should a situation arise that necessitates your child arrive late to school (after 9:00 AM), you must park in the lot, accompany your child into the school office and sign him/her in at the front office/lobby. (Please do not park in the Fire Lane)
Absent/Dismissal/Change of Day Plans
Parents MUST send an email to your child’s teacher AND primaryoffice@lunenburgschools.net in the morning. Please date your letter, including your child’s full name, and indicate what the change in arrangement is. The Primary School will only accept telephone calls to change a child’s after school arrangements, or to dismiss a child early in the case of an emergency.
Lunch Program
Lunches are free again this year. Please review with your child if they will be having lunch from the cafeteria or eating a lunch that you prepared. Lunch menus are posted monthly on the website and will be sent home in weekly communication.
Vehicle Traffic: State Law does not allow motorists to pass a bus while loading or discharging passengers even in the school parking lot. A speed limit of 10 mph must be adhered to while driving in our parking areas.
Weekly Communication
Weekly communication will come out by the end of day on Friday's as consistently as possible. However, there maybe times in which this communication comes out on Saturday.
The weekly communication will contain general information such as important dates, procedural reminders and highlights from the week. In addition, the need may arise to send out other communications during the week.
