Dear NPE Community,

I hope this email finds you well! There are several items for your review this week. Please take a minute to peruse these new items:

* Kindergarten Registration for the 27-28 school year is now open!

* Once again we are collecting leftover candy for our troops.

* Red Ribbon Week is next week. We will have a different theme each day (October 26-30).

* Bike safety - please review the expectations for our bicycle riders at NPE.

* Rebecca Schwam has updated her guidance information. The latest edition is included today.

We are looking forward to the Autumn Adventure which is this upcoming Friday, October 23. A big thank you to our PTO and volunteers for helping to make this a special day for our students. If you have not already done so, please review the Halloween Parade route on Friday, October 30. Hopefully the weather will cooperate with us!

Reminders:

Costume Guidelines for the Halloween Parade:

To ensure a safe, fun, and comfortable day for all students, please keep the following guidelines in mind when planning costumes:

  • Comfort & Mobility: Costumes should allow students to move safely and comfortably during school activities and recess.

  • No Weapons or Violent Props: Pretend weapons, sharp objects, and toy guns/swords/knives are strictly not permitted.

  • Mask Policy: Masks may be worn during the parade only; they must be removed during instructional time and recess for safety and visibility.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership!

Fondly,

Al Heinle

Halloween Parade Halloween Parade

NPE’s annual Halloween Parade will be held on Friday, October 30. The procession of classes will begin at approximately 9:05 AM throughout our parking lot and front loop.. Grades K-2 will process first, followed by Grades 3-5 at approximately 9:15 AM. Attached below is an overview of the parade path.

Kindergarten families will receive a separate communication with specific plans for AM and PM Kindergarten. We ask that parents use your best judgment about your child’s choice of costume. However, as always, NO GUNS OR OTHER TOY WEAPONS may be carried.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated in this matter. Families who do not wish their child to participate in the parade should contact the classroom teacher via email or note, so we are able to make alternative arrangements. Thank you!!

Obtaining & Submitting Clearances

Guidelines and details regarding how to obtain and submit your clearances can be accessed on the district site: Volunteer Information & Guidelines - Wallingford-Swarthmore School District. Please note that clearance processing takes time, so be sure to begin and complete this process a few weeks before your intended volunteer start date.

Dismissal - Bike/Walker Safety Dismissal - Bike/Walker Safety

We have a large number of students who walk and/or take their bicycles to school. While this constantly reminds me that we are truly a community school. We strive to keep our dismissal process as safe as possible. Our township crossing guard has kept our students safe for many years. However, there can be some challenges posed by traffic and a large number of students. Please take a minute and review some items regarding bike safety.

  • Anyone under the age of 12 must wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. This applies to anyone operating the bicycle, riding as a passenger, or riding in an attached restraining seat or trailer. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation strongly recommends that all bicyclists wear helmets whenever they ride.
  • Please also review basic road safety with your children, including stopping at all crosswalks, walking bikes across busy intersections, and staying aware of surrounding traffic. Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe!

I also ask that families speak with their children about promptly leaving the school if they are walkers. The quicker our walkers depart, the safer our bus line is for dismissal. Thank you for your support!

Little Panthers Enrollment Little Panthers Enrollment

Little Panthers Preschool is off to a great start, and enrollment is still open for the 2026-27 school year! Open to children ages 3-5, our preschool provides hands-on, play-based learning in a supportive classroom environment.

The program also serves as a learning laboratory for Strath Haven High School students enrolled in the Childhood program. High school students work alongside the classroom instructor and teacher’s aides to plan and lead developmentally appropriate activities while gaining experience in child development, teamwork, and leadership. Preschoolers benefit from engaging activities, outdoor play, and interaction with their high school buddies.

The program meets three days a week, from 9:07 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.

Interested families can learn more and enroll on the Little Panthers Preschool website, or contact Director Jen Zanoni at jzanoni@wssd.org or 610-892-3470 ext. 2137.
