Mr. Hilton's Highlights
Hello:
You couldn’t ask for better weather this week! It was great seeing all the kids on the playground enjoying recess and having fun with their friends. Speaking of the playground, I wanted to share a quick update on the sound barrier along SR 31. It is still the plan to move forward with the project, and work is scheduled to begin during Fall Break. However, they let us know that we probably won’t see much happening for a while. The initial work will involve the layout, locating utilities, and taking care of other behind-the-scenes preparations. I just wanted everyone to know that the sound barrier is still happening, even if we don’t see much progress right away!
Your child should have brought home a PTO club application today. The copiers were fighting us today, so a couple grade levels might have received these through TalkingPoints. They will have forms to bring home on Monday.
We have started planning for parent teacher conferences. Our goal is to have all conferences done by Friday, November 13. This will be an opportunity for you to learn more about your child's progress academically and socially. Please be on the lookout for information from your child’s teacher in the next couple of weeks.
Have a great weekend,
Andy
A huge thank you to our amazing PTO for treating our staff to such a delicious lunch yesterday! We are so grateful for your kindness, generosity, and all the ways you make our staff feel appreciated. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful PTO!
Third Grade Vision Screening
Vision Screening Tests Scheduled for October 14
In accordance with Indiana Code (I.C. 20-34-3-12), all students in Kindergarten or 1st grade, as well as those in 3rd, 5th, and 8th grades, are required to receive a near and far visual acuity screening.
What is a Vision Screening?
Your child will be asked to read letters or symbols from a chart at two distances:
● Standing 10 feet away from the chart (for far vision)
● Holding the chart in their hands (for near vision)
● Each eye will be tested separately by having the student cover one eye at a time.
This screening helps identify any issues with seeing clearly whether far away (like reading the board or screen) or up close (like reading books or using a computer).
Important Reminders:
● If your child wears glasses or contact lenses, they should wear them during the screening.
● Please remind your child to bring their glasses or wear their contact lenses to school.
If Your Child Needs Follow-Up:
Students who have difficulty during the screening will receive a letter sent home with the results and a recommendation to see an eye doctor for a full evaluation.
If your child needs glasses, already has glasses that are broken or no longer work, or needs help getting vision care, please contact the school nurse. We can help connect you to resources.
Opting Out:
If you do not want your child to participate in the vision screening, you must send a written note to the school nurse before the screening date. The note must include:
● Your child’s full name
● Date of birth
● A statement that you do not wish for them to participate in the screening
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your CCES school nurses, Nurse Anne and Nurse Rachael. Thank you for helping us support your child’s health and learning success!

Help Us Keep Attendance & Dismissal on Track
A quick reminder for families: Please communicate attendance information or dismissal changes directly to the school office through TalkingPoints or by phone.
While you are welcome to keep your child’s teacher informed, please don’t rely on a message sent only to the teacher. Teachers may not see messages during the school day, and if a substitute is in the classroom, the message may not be seen at all.
Whenever possible, please send dismissal changes by 1:30 p.m. Changes received too close to the end of the school day can make it difficult to ensure the correct information reaches everyone and may lead to errors.
Our goal is to help you and your student the best we can! Communicating directly with the office and sending changes early helps us maintain accurate records and ensures students get where they need to be at dismissal.
Thank you for helping us keep everyone informed and our students safe!

If you think you may want to volunteer, help with a classroom party, join your child for lunch, or chaperone a field trip this year, now is a great time to complete your background check.
Westfield Washington Schools uses SafeVisitor for visitor management and background checks. Because the approval process can take 3–6 business days, completing your background check now will help ensure you're ready when an opportunity comes up.
