Principal's Report
A Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School East
A Word From Dr. Clune
Dear PV East Parents and Guardians,
We are heading into our last full week of school before summer break. Please mark your calendars that this Friday, June 7th is a half day. We will be having field day on the following dates: 8th Grade (6/7); 7th Grade (6/10); and 6th Grade (6/11). Students should bring water and dress for moving around outside.
Also, our 8th Grade Awards Ceremony is Tuesday, June 11th at 8:20AM in the Auditorium. Parents and family members are welcome to attend. Please bring a valid ID. You will enter the building through the auditorium entrance.
This past week was very busy with some amazing moments. I wanted to share a few highlights with you. Our 6th Grade classes have been taking a trip to the moon via the Challenger Learning Center. This simulated flight to the moon has been an incredible learning experience. Also, our 7th Graders released the trout they were raising through the 'Trout in the Classroom' program at Central Perkiomen Park. There were many learning stations that the students rotated to throughout the day. And our 8th Graders had a fabulous 8th Grade Celebration that was organized by our East Home & School Association. There were many activities including a very poular dunk tank with our teachers. Many thanks to all of our faculty & staff who attende. A great time was had by all.
Finally, Saturday (6/1) was our Moon Tree Landing. We planted two legacy trees; Artemis Moon Tree and Treaty Elm Tree. We were one of only 50 institutions from across the United States selected by NASA and the US Forest Service to recieve an Artemis Moon Tree on this first round. These 50 institutions included government instutitions, libraries, universities, and K-12 schools. We should all take tremendous pride as a school community with this accomplishment. Please check out our Facebook post on PV Woods to learn more.

PVSD Summer Reading
Perkiomen Valley School District believes it is critical for students to foster positive reading habits in order to develop as lifelong learners. The district's summer reading program encourages students to read high-interest, self-selected texts. After all, summer reading is a great opportunity for students to explore personal interests, various genres, and topics they want to know more about while discovering their own "just right" books. As an added bonus, reading high-interest materials prepares students for the demands of college and career-reading. Research strongly suggests that reading skills improve with practice and weaken when not exercised. So why have a summer reading program? The program exists to inspire a lifelong love of reading and to maintain and sharpen one's reading and thinking skills.
PVSD is dedicated to helping you access high-quality, high-interest books. Please know that our middle school libraries at Middle School West and Middle School East will be open this summer for summer library programming, "Go for the Gold: Read"!
See below for more information about Summer Library.
How can you access books online? Current PVSD students may access library ebooks and audiobooks through our Destiny Discover library catalog. See the links below. We also encourage you to utilize ebooks offered by local MCLINC libraries and the Free Library of Philadelphia.
Power Packs
Power Packs will once again be offering 3 opportunities for Perkiomen Valley families experiencing food insecurity to come and "shop" for food this summer at Middle School East. We will have perishable and non-perishable food, including milk, eggs, lunch meat and fruit. Because some of the food will be perishable, you MUST be signed up in order to participate. Please complete a form for each child in your household, including children who are not yet school age.
The Summer Power Packs Pantry will be open in the Middle School East cafeteria from 5:30 - 7:30 pm on the following dates:
June 13 (sign up no later than Friday, June 7th)
July 11 (sign up no later than Friday, July 5)
August 8 (sign up no later than Friday, August 2nd)
Email powerpacks@pvsd.org with any questions.
