Greetings Wolfpack Families and Friends!!!

Greetings Wolfpack Families and Friends! Welcome to the April edition of our monthly school newsletter. I hope this message finds each of you well. As we step into April, we’re excited to share the latest updates and events happening at Jean Childs Young Middle School. Our students continue to shine bright with their achievements, creativity, and triumphs under the guidance of our amazing teachers and staff members. We continue to be so proud of each and every one of them.

During the month of March, there were some notable highlights that we are incredibly proud of, as our students and staff continue to showcase outstanding dedication and achievement!!!! I commend their hard work and perseverance, as well as the unwavering support provided by our dedicated teachers and staff to make their achievements possible.

Beyond the classroom, our students are continuing to excel in various extracurricular activities. Our boys and girls track teams recently competed in the championship track meet and some members will advance to the state level to compete. Our boys and girls soccer teams had an unprecedented season, each winning their last two matches with a large margin of victory. Currently, our baseball and flag football teams are competing and will hopefully make it to the championship round this season. They are truly representing us with dignity and grace!! Let’s continue to show them our support as they represent our school community.

As always, we strongly encourage open communication between parents and teachers. Your involvement and feedback are invaluable in ensuring the success of our school and fostering the well-being of our students. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we will continue to make this school year a memorable and successful one as we “Rebuild the Legacy” of Jean Childs Young Middle School, one day at a time.

With Gratitude,

Ronald Garlington - Principal

Tech Trips With Ms. Park

Ms. Park’s technology students experienced far more than a stadium tour during their recent field trip to Truist Park—they stepped into a space where history, innovation, and personal dreams intersect. What began as a behind‑the‑scenes look at the stadium’s operations quickly grew into a meaningful day of learning, reflection, and encouragement.

As students explored the stadium’s advanced digital systems—from high‑tech scoreboards to the data‑driven operations that keep the venue running smoothly—they engaged deeply with two ISTE Student Standards:

Knowledge Constructor: Students gathered information about the stadium’s technological infrastructure, asked thoughtful questions, and connected what they’ve learned in class to real‑world applications. They saw how technology shapes everything from fan engagement to stadium safety.

Global Collaborator: Working in teams, students interacted with professionals, shared insights, and observed how collaboration drives success in both technology and sports environments. They learned that innovation is rarely a solo effort—it thrives on communication, teamwork, and shared problem‑solving.

Yet the most powerful moments of the day came when students learned about the legacy of Hank Aaron, one of the most celebrated Black athletes in American history. Hearing about his perseverance, courage, and groundbreaking achievements added a deeply personal layer to the experience. Many of our student athletes left Truist Park feeling uplifted and hopeful, inspired by Aaron’s journey and reminded that their own futures hold limitless possibility.

This transformative field trip was made possible through the generous support of Leah Song, Senior VP in the Global Commercial Banking division at Bank of America. Leah not only sponsored the trip but also brought three of her colleagues—Mahmood Mohammed, Martin Mullalli, and Taylor Shivers—to serve as chaperones. Their presence, encouragement, and willingness to share their experiences made the day even more meaningful for our students.

Leah has been a steadfast partner to Young Middle School, serving as a Career Day speaker for the past two years and continually investing in the lives of our scholars. Her commitment opens doors, broadens horizons, and helps students envision futures filled with opportunity and purpose. We are profoundly grateful for her partnership and for the hope, inspiration, and learning she helps bring to our community.

On April 4th, we join schools across the country in celebrating National School Librarian Day. Here at Young Middle School, we are incredibly lucky to have Mrs. Iuyana Miller leading the way in our library.

Mrs. Miller is much more than a librarian; she is a:

  • Dedicated Educator

  • Literacy Champion
  • Student Advocate

Mrs. Miller’s influence reaches every corner of our school, whether she is coaching the Reading Bowl Team, advising the Yearbook, or leading the Anime and Crochet Clubs. By bridging the gap between digital tools and classic literacy, she creates an inclusive environment where every student can lead and grow. We are so grateful for her dedication to building a community of lifelong learners!

Thank you, Mrs. Miller, for inspiring a love of reading and learning in our students every day!
