Superintendent Update
June 6, 2025
Cliff's Notes
Dear Bedford Public Schools Community,
Last night, we celebrated the Class of 2025 at graduation, and we can’t wait to see where they go from here. Though the end of the school year is in sight, there is still important work to be done. At the final school committee meeting on June 11th, members will take action to combat antisemitism and other forms of hate and bias in our community. They will also make a final determination regarding healthy school hours. I encourage all of us to follow the lead of our 5th graders who reached new heights by pushing the boundaries of what they thought was possible on Project Adventure Challenge Day today (pictured above) by working hard and together.
Best,
Cliff Chuang (he/him) 莊 宏 毅

Irene Parker Foyer Dedication Speech by Akil Mondesir, METCO Director
From the Dedication Event on May 31, 2025, at BHS
Good afternoon, everyone. It is an honor to be standing here today. I want to start by saying that besides my grandmother, there was only one other woman I’ve ever met who had the aura of a giant, a woman who could silence a room with just her presence and honestly, scared me half to death when I was a kid. But I say that with love because behind that powerful presence was a heart even bigger than her reputation. Being here today isn’t just a moment in time. It’s a culmination of many moments. Moments that began over 50 years ago, when a town, a community, and a school committee made the bold decision to open its doors, its schools, and its hearts to embark on a mission, a mission to educate students from Boston through the METCO program. That mission was championed, shaped, and carried forward by the very woman we are here to honor today Irene Parker! Please click here to read more.
The final meeting will be Wednesday, June 11th, when the committee will address antisemitism and hate in our community and healthy school hours. They will also consider changes on the BHS and JGMS 2025-2026 Student Handbooks, ratify contracts for our administrators and administrative assistance, hear an update on literacy implementation, and review the first year of the strategic plan overall along with evaluating the superintendent. As always, meeting agendas, schedules, and supporting documents are available on the School Committee - Meeting Schedule & Supporting Documents.
Sunday, June 8, 2-4 PM on the Town Common

Starting Conversations about Gun Violence and Safe Storage can be Difficult. We’re Here to Help.
The Bedford Safe Campaign is a collaborative gun violence prevention campaign sponsored by the Bedford Police Department, the Bedford Health Department and the Bedford Board of Health who are joining together to protect our children, youth and families from gun violence injury and death in homes. More information is available at www.BedfordMA.gov/BedfordSafe.
Having conversations with other adults about gun violence and proper firearm storage protects children and teens from death and disability that results from an unsecured firearm. Children are curious and teens often enjoy sharing things with friends, which increases the risk of having a deadly event due to an unsecured firearm in the home. As part of a public health initiative to provide residents with a safe and secure way of removing unwanted firearms from their homes, the Bedford Safe Campaign for gun violence prevention is hosting a “Gift Cards for Guns” Event on Thursday 6/12, 7-8:30 pm at the DPW, 314 Great Road. Residents can turn in unwanted firearms and receive a Visa gift card. More information can be found here.
