Estimadas familias de James John,
¡Es bueno estar de vuelta! Qué semana tan fantástica para nuestros estudiantes y personal. Estoy muy agradecido con nuestra comunidad de educadores. Habiendo sido docente durante muchos años antes de que me pidieran que regresara a James John como administrador, soy muy consciente y reconozco la cantidad de trabajo que los docentes ponen para perfeccionar su oficio docente y los muchos roles que los docentes desempeñan para ayudar a cumplir con las diferentes necesidades. necesidades de nuestros estudiantes.
Mientras me sentaba y observaba cómo se desarrollaba la huelga y luegovi la reunión pública de la junta directiva; me sentí feliz de que se haya llegado a un acuerdo y también entristecido por lo quetuve queLo que el lenguaje y la retórica pueden hacer a una comunidad. Y entiendo perfectamente que a veces es necesario ser escuchado, y ahora avanzamos para sanar y volver a educar a nuestros estudiantes. Estoy agradecido de que todos hayamos regresado a la escuela con una visión singular: brindarles a nuestros estudiantes lo que les faltaba durante la huelga: conexiones y un enfoque en la alegría de aprender.
También escuché algunos rumores sobre la creación de un nuevo mantra escolar, Si bien el Sr. Horrigan no se atribuye el mérito de haber creado un mantra que se escuchó en nuestros pasillos mucho antes de que comenze a trabajar en James John (2013), quiero darle las gracias al Sr. Horrigan, usted inspira más de lo que cree.
Para los padres que completaron nuestra encuesta de reingreso, muchas gracias, sus comentarios me ayudaron a guiarme y comprender cuál es la mejor manera de apoyar el regreso de nuestros jóvenes estudiantes a la escuela o, como lo he escuchado ahora, “Nuestro segundo primer día de clases. "

Dear James John Families,
It’s good to be back! What a fantastic week for our students and staff. I am so grateful to our community of educators. Having been a teacher for many years prior to being asked if I would return to James John as an administrator, I am well aware and recognize the amount of work teachers put into honing their teaching craft and the many roles teachers navigate to help meet the varying needs of our students.
As I sat and watched the strike unfold and then watched the public board meeting earlier this week - I was left feeling happy that an agreement was reached and also saddened at what divisive language and rhetoric can do to a community. And I fully understand that at times it is necessary to be heard - and now we move forward to heal and return to educating our students. I am grateful that we all arrived back to school with a singular view - to provide our students with what they were missing during the strike - connections and a focus on the joy of learning.
I’ve also heard some rumblings of creating a new school mantra (hint: read below).
We are great,
We can do it,
We will do it,
WE ARE GREAT!
While Mr. Horrigan will not take credit for creating a mantra that has been heard in our hallways for well before I began working at James John (2013), I want to say thank you to Mr. Horrigan, you inspire more than you know.
For parents that filled out our re-entry survey, many thank yous, your comments helped guide me and understand how best to support our young learner’s return to school or as I’ve heard it referred to now, “Our second first day of school.”
We are a mighty community here at James John and it will take the collective strength of all of us to change the status quo for our students. I know that each educator at James John believes that our students can succeed and that is our commitment - North Portland Strong!
