Public Comment Electronic Sign-up Starts at Oct. 20 Board Meeting

Last month, the Board voted to transition to an electronic Public Comment Period sign-up process for Board of Education meetings. This change will go into effect at the October Board meeting. Read more about the new process here.

Livestreaming Platform Update

At the request of the Board, the administration provided an update on the livestreaming of Board Meetings. Concerns were raised about the content in Board Meetings potentially not meeting community guidelines of YouTube which could result in sanctions to the District's YouTube channel. In an effort to protect the District's primary YouTube channel, the District will create a second YouTube channel designated for Board Meetings.

The District will provide an update in the coming months as we make this transition.

New Business

Tax Rate Approval

The board approved the proposed tax rates, as presented.

Challenged Materials

The Board voted to not retain "Flamer" by Mark Curato due to the potential that retaining the book would be a violation of Section 573.550 of the RSMo. The challenged book review committee recommended the District retain the book. At the time the committee made this recommendation, SB 775 was not signed into law and, therefore, not applicable.

At this point, the District has identified a list of materials needing further review by the administration as a result of SB 775. The District administration is in the process of reviewing these books and will complete the review as soon as possible. At this time, no other books have been permanently removed from District libraries as a result of SB 775.

Future Meeting
  • A Board Workshop will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022.
  • The next regular Board Meeting is set for Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022.
