Welding Students Present to CTE Advisory Council

On January 10, first-year students from the OHM BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTE) Welding program, accompanied by expert instructors Mr. Kelleher and Mr. Swartz, delivered an impressive presentation to the CTE Advisory Council at the Howard D. Mettelman Learning Center.

Students Jeffrey Reppel (Whitesboro), Lorenzo Brancaccio (Whitesboro) and Logan Roberts (Waterville) showcased how augmented reality welding systems are transforming instruction at CTE. Our state-of-the-art virtual welding lab, the first of its kind in New York State, has enabled the program to expand enrollment while significantly reducing consumable costs. The technology also allows students to practice safety protocols and welding applications in a controlled, risk-free environment before transitioning to a fully equipped shop environment.

This innovative approach to education reflects CTE's commitment to providing cutting-edge training that prepares students for success in the welding industry.

Criminal Justice Students Identify Prints

"First-year students from the OHM BOCES CTE Criminal Justice program recently completed a course on identifying finger, foot and tire prints. They learned how to identify latent, patent and plastic (3D) prints, and explored the techniques for photographing, dusting, casting and developing each type of print.

Students also learned how to take fingerprints using traditional ink and the OHM BOCES Criminal Justice Livescan computer. Livescan fingerprinting is a modern, inkless method of capturing fingerprints electronically. Instead of using ink and paper, the fingerprints are scanned directly into a computer program using a specialized scanning device.
