SCS Weekly Newsletter 10/15/23

What a week of events!

From the Principal's Desk:

Dear Salisbury Families:

I hope you are all well. It was a fun week last week at Salisbury Community School- we did a lot in 4 days. Field trips, Fall Foliage Fest, Clearing the Trails, and more. It was a lot of fun, and it was productive too!

There have been an awful lot of words in my newsletter lately, and this week's newsletter comes at an interesting point where so much has happened recently (early release, a holiday, events, field trips, the first six weeks of school) that I have a lot less to tell you about for now- so we'll keep the read short! Enjoy the pictures, and please do check out the links in the end for banking sign-ups, the lunch schedule, etc.

By the way- it's getting colder. We have some nice winter coats that were donated by Hannaford Supermarket for students who could use them. Although we will certainly use any that we have as extras in case a student needs one at school, we would first like to offer them to families. Please reach out to Donna or any SCS employee about this- we are all more than happy to help see if we have something that works.

Best,

Bjarki

Congratulations to our Wonderful Cook Kathleen Newton!

This weekend, our wonderful cook Kathleen Newton got married! Last week, the student and staff had a blast presenting her with her wedding gift: an Adirondack chair from Woodware in Middlebury. The staff all chipped in, and the students provided all the joy and excitement to our celebration! Let's go Kathleen Marinelli!

Fall Foliage Fun!

We held our second annual "Fall Foliage Fun on the Secret Soccer Field" on Thursday. It was a blast! Students participated in a variety of activities with teachers and parent volunteers overseeing the fun. They had egg-races, tug of war, facepainting, soccer, hiking our trails, Baggo, an art station, and just generally running around chasing falling leaves! Thank you to our parents and caregivers who contributed, both those who helped with events as well as those who donated snacks and supplies. You are awesome, and the kids really benefit from your caring.

Clear the Trails!

Om Tuesday night a group of FOCS volunteers (thank you Leatherwoods, Clarks, and Sheldricks!) met at Salisbury Community School for our fall "Clear the Trails" work night. We went through and cleared out blowdowns, cut back brush, and got the trails and treeline back up to snuff for another year. It's a fun event, and it didn't take too long- we were done in about an hour and a half.

Lions Daiper Drive! Drop-off at SCS

The Lions Club of Middlebury is having a diaper drive for the month of October. All diapers collected are going to the Addison County Parent-Child Center. The Middlebury Lions are doing this along with all 34 Lions Clubs throughout Vermont. The effort is to help offset the 70% reduction in funding to the Vermont Diaper Bank. The Diaper Bank exists to help provide diapers to economically challenged young families.

You may drop diaper donations off at Salisbury Community School, and we will transfer them to the Lions Club. We will weigh the diapers, and announce the total weight in a future newsletter. Then, next year, we'll try to beat that number!
