Gonic Weekly Update to Families
April 4, 2025
Brief Message From the Principal
The day is early but so far my favorite part was watching a first grade lesson being taught by Mr. Ervin (who is subbing for Mrs. Adam today). The class was discussing the story Rumplestiltskin and listening to Mr. E use his best teacher language while most of the students were engaged was pretty cool.
The rest of the week went well as we started our new intervention groups with the world's best reading intervention team and had a lot of fun on April Fool's Day. I may have gotten a bit carried away with a prank on the office but it was all in good fun (or so at least I thought).
Grades three through five are continuing to focus on curriculum but also doing some preparation for the NHSAS testing that will take place in a few weeks. I appreciate all of the students and staff persevering through this and look forward to seeing the fruits of their labor later on in the spring.
Take care,
Greg

🏥 Update from Nurse Senter
According to Healthy Children.org children who spend time outside playing are:
● Physically healthier - More outdoor time is linked with improved motor
development and lower obesity rates and myopia (nearsightedness) risk.
Safely getting some sun also helps us make vitamin D that our bodies
need to stay healthy and strong.
● More engaged in learning - Playing outside promotes curiosity, creativity
and critical thinking and focus.
● More positive in behavior - Research shows that when children spent time
in natural settings they had less anger and aggression. Impulse control
also improves.
● Mentally healthier - Stress and depression are lower for all people who
spend time in nature. Children show increased focus and reduced
symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
