A Word From The Herd A Word From The Herd

As we reflect on Remembrance Day, we are grateful for the opportunity to come together as a school community to honour and remember those who have served and sacrificed for our country. Our Remembrance Day assembly was a meaningful opportunity for students and staff to pause, reflect, and recognize the courage, bravery, and contributions of the men and women who have served, both past and present. Thank you to everyone who helped make the assembly so special, and to the families and guests who joined us. It was a wonderful reminder of the importance of remembrance, gratitude, and peace.

As we head into Fall Break, we hope everyone enjoys some well-deserved time to rest, recharge, and spend time with family and friends. We are grateful for the wonderful school community we have and look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for the busy weeks ahead.

Wishing everyone a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable Fall Break!

Mrs. Candler & Mr. Michaud

School Council and AEPSA Meeting Virtual Attendance School Council and AEPSA Meeting Virtual Attendance

We are trialing a virtual option for our upcoming School Council and AEPSA (Fundraising Group) meetings to explore whether it makes participation more accessible for families. Meetings will continue to be held in person, with the added option to join virtually and listen to the discussion.

If you are interested in joining online, please use the Microsoft Teams link below. The same link will be used for both School Council and AEPSA.

Following this trial, we will gather feedback and consider whether to continue offering a virtual option for future meetings.

School Council will be on Tuesday, November 17 and begins at 6:00 pm. The AEPSA Meeting will follow the conclusion of the School Council Meeting.

Bullying Awareness & Prevention Week Bullying Awareness & Prevention Week

From Monday, November 16 to Friday, November 20, Ardrossan Elementary School will be recognizing Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week. This important week provides an opportunity to raise awareness about bullying, promote kindness and inclusion, and remind students of the important role we all play in creating a safe, caring, and welcoming school community.

Throughout the week, students will be given a new daily task or challenge designed to encourage kindness, empathy, respect, and positive relationships with others. These simple challenges will remind our students that even small actions can make a big difference in someone's day.

Together, we can continue to make AEL a place where everyone feels safe, valued, respected, and included. Let's show our Bison pride by choosing kindness every day!

With the winter season almost here, the school has a few reminders for families:

  • Ensure students have clothing appropriate for expected weather conditions.
  • If weather conditions are bad enough to impact student transportation, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) advises families directly, and posts updates on social media and eips.ca.

  • Decisions regarding bus cancellations are guided by an EIPS administrative procedure that states, “school bus service may be suspended…when there is a forecast or current temperature of -40 C, including wind chill factor, in one or more regions.” Other reasons for suspending or delaying school bus services include adverse weather and poor road conditions.

  • When school bus services are suspended, schools remain open to students.

For more information, contact EIPS Student Transportation at 780-417-8151.

Please review the map attached to assist with picking and dropping off. We thank you for keeping our students safe! Do not forget about our new accessible parking. Changes were made to our drive-thru pick-up lane and the drive lane to the south of the school. We added accessible parking stalls to better support families and guests who require easier access to the building.

We kindly ask that parents do not stop or park in these lanes unless your child or guest has accessibility needs. Keeping these spaces available helps ensure those who need them most are able to access the school safely and conveniently.

School Fees Are Now Posted - Pay with EFT! School Fees Are Now Posted - Pay with EFT!

School fees for 2026-27 are now posted to the PowerSchool Parent Portal. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. To help make fee payment as convenient as possible, EIPS offers several payment options, including a brand-new option this year—Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) payments, also known as E-Cheque. EFT payments allow you to pay directly from your bank account with no added fees, giving you added flexibility beyond credit or debit card payments.

When you log into your PowerSchool Parent Portal, click the “Student Fees” icon and proceed to checkout. You’ll now see EFT (E-Cheque) listed as a payment option. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete your payment.

To make checkout even faster, you can save EFT to your account for future use.

  1. Log in to your PowerSchool Parent Portal account

  2. Click on the “Student Fees” icon

  3. Open the menu in the top-right corner

  4. Select Manage Payment Methods

  5. Add and save your EFT (E-Cheque) details

Once saved, you can select EFT at checkout without re-entering your information each time.

For more information, visit the https://www.ardrossanelementary.ca/about/fees. Alternatively, contact Mrs. Marcoux-Jones at Ardrossan Elementary at 780-922-2066.

Annual Plans to Guide our Work in the Year Ahead Annual Plans to Guide our Work in the Year Ahead

Throughout Elk Island Public Schools, each school annually develops a handful of plans to guide its work throughout the school year. The Guide to Reporting Student Achievement (GRSA), School Education Plan (SEP) and Personal Mobile Device (PMD) Plans for the 2026-27 school year are now available! These documents all support success for students and schools across the Division, aligning with the EIPS Four-Year Education Plan: 2026-30 (Year 1).

  • The GRSA explains how the school assesses student achievement, determines grades and more.
  • The SEP details the school’s priorities and goals for the year—with key strategies and measures in achieving these outcomes.
  • The PMD plan outlines each school’s policy on the use of personal devices at school.
