Family Newsletter
August Update

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Families,
Our teachers are working hard to make learning fun, engaging, and meaningful, and our students are putting in the work (see From the Classroom section of the Newsletter). We are so proud of the effort and growth happening throughout our school.
Believe it or not, next Friday marks the end of Quarter 1! Progress reports will not be mailed home, as all families either received their child’s progress report during conferences or had one mailed home if they were unable to attend.
Wishing all of our families a safe, joyful, and fun Halloween weekend!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to text, call, or email: (231) 590-8631 or reevec@suttonsbayschools.com.
Sincerely,
Chris Reeve
Principal, Suttons Bay Public Schools
LIFT NEEDS YOUR VOTE
LIFT is in the running to be named one of Oryana's 2027 Groceries for Good recipients, and voting closes end of day tomorrow, October 31!
The Groceries for Good program highlights one Northern Michigan nonprofit each month. Shoppers are able to round up their purchase to the nearest dollar in support of that month’s organization, and Oryana chooses one day each month to donate 2% of profits from both stores to that month’s recipient.
In addition to broader community awareness, this program offers the chance for LIFT to receive upwards of $10,000 in community support in a single month.
Cast your vote today in support of LIFT! Simply click the link, scroll down to "Youth Support and Education". Click the box next to "LIFT (Leelanau Investing for Teens)" and then click "SUBMIT".
DESTINATION: DEGREE
By now, seniors should be well underway with their Common App and college applications. As you continue working through the application process, please be sure to list Mr. Reeve as your school counselor on your applications so that we can upload transcripts and provide any required supporting documents.
Scholarship opportunities are also rolling in, and our Scholarship Webpage has been updated with new opportunities! We encourage seniors and families to check the website regularly and take advantage of scholarships as they become available. Applying for scholarships early and consistently can make a big difference in helping to offset the cost of college.
Please continue to stay organized, pay attention to application deadlines, and reach out if you need assistance along the way.
STUDENTS RECOGNIZED FOR ART WORK
We are excited to share that two of our Suttons Bay student artists earned 2nd place in the Leelanau Conservation District Poster Contest!
Congratulations to our winners!
4th–6th Grade: Sage Swejkoski — 2nd Place
10th–12th Grade: Seoyoung Cha — 2nd Place
The top three posters in each age group will be displayed at the Leelanau Conservation District Annual Meeting on Friday, November 6, from 6:30–9:00 p.m. at Local’s Restaurant in Lake Leelanau. Students and families are welcome to attend and view the posters!
CLAIM-EVIDENCE-REASONING
If you had to choose between a straight year of canoeing with nine other people, or a year of backpacking with nine other people, which would you choose and why? Students made a claim as to what would be best for them and then supported their claim with evidence and reasoning in their writing for this assignment. (Thank you, Mrs. Hall, for drawing our canoe.)
7th & 8th Grade Art Club ~ Field Trip to the Dennos Museum
Our 7th and 8th grade Art Club students visited the Dennos Museum to explore a variety of artworks through the lens of identity—how artists express who they are and what matters to them.
As they explored contemporary, modern, and Inuit art, students selected a favorite artwork and captured the moment with a Polaroid photo. To wrap up their visit, they created personal collages inspired by both their chosen artwork and their own identities.
From discovering new artists and perspectives to exploring the hands-on Discovery Gallery, students had a fun, inspiring day connecting art, creativity, and self-expression!
