January at Lindenwold ECC
Notes from the Principals
by Mr. Jeff Patterson (Principal) and Ms. Melanie Martin (Assistant Principal)
⦿ We are excited to welcome our students and staff back from Winter Break! With students returning after some time off, we will be spending time re-emphasizing our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program. As a reminder, our school rules are: "Be Safe. Be Responsible. Be a Problem Solver." Students regularly earn Cub's Pride tickets-and have the chance to earn prizes-for demonstrating these behaviors in school, so feel free to remind students of these expectations at home!
⦿ Preschool Families: Please be mindful that we still need Flu Vaccine paperwork from some Preschool families. If we do not have record of students having received a flu vaccine, these Preschoolers will not be able to return to school on January 5th until we do.
⦿ Please send your child to school with a coat-not a sweatshirt-daily! Our young students benefit greatly from being able to go outside and we will go out every day we can. We typically go out if the "Real Feel" is above 32 degrees. Please make sure your children's names are on their coats! If your child is in need of a winter coat, please reach out to Ms. Denise Vogel, our School Counselor at dvelez-vogel@lindenwold.k12.nj.us. We have coats available.
2025-2026 Lindenwold Early Childhood Center Teacher and ESP of the Year
We would like to congratulate Preschool Special Education Teacher Mr. Colin Francis and our school counselor, Ms. Denise Vogel, on being named the 2025-2026 ECC Teacher of the Year and Educational Services Professional of the Year, respectively. We have an incredible staff here at the ECC so this is a real honor!
This Month's Family Engagement Activities
⦿ Our next Home and School Meeting will take place on 1/12 at 5:30 PM.
⦿ We will be hosting Preschool Family Engagement Activities from 1/26-1/29, with the schedule further down this document. Preschool classes will be doing a STEAM marshmallow activity.
⦿ For those planning in advance, we'll be hosting our Kindergarten Letter Parade (with families invited to attend) on February 6th at 2:30 PM.
Notes from Our Nurse
By Ms. Amanda Peacock RN, BSN-Lindenwold Early Childhood Center Nurse
Hello Families,
Winter is here, bringing cozy times but also unique health challenges for our preschool to first grade students. Here are some tips to keep our little ones happy, healthy, and safe this season.
1. Dressing for Winter
Layers are Key: Dress your child in several thin layers – it's better than one bulky coat and helps regulate warmth.
Cover Extremities: Don't forget hats, gloves/mittens, and warm socks to protect against frostbite.
Car Seat Safety: Thick coats make car seats unsafe! Remove bulky outerwear before buckling and use blankets over the straps instead.
Wet Clothes: Change out of wet clothes immediately to prevent chills and illness.
*If you need assistance providing your child/children with winter gear (a coat, gloves, warm hat) please reach out to us including me in nursing, your child’s teacher and/or Ms. Denise Vogel, our School Counselor at dvelez-vogel@lindenwold.k12.nj.us
2. Tackling Dryness & Germs
-Moisturize: Dry winter air causes dry, itchy skin and chapped lips. Apply lotion after baths and use lip balm (chapstick/Vaseline) daily.
-Humidify: A cool-mist humidifier in your child's room can help with dry skin and winter nosebleeds.
-Nosebleeds: Use saline spray or a dab of petroleum jelly to keep nasal passages moist.
-Handwashing Heroes: Frequent handwashing with warm, moisturizing soap is crucial to fight winter germs.
3. Healthy Winter Fun & Activity
-Indoor Play: Keep active! Try indoor circuits with jumping jacks, animal walks (bear crawls, frog jumps), or dancing to music.
-Warm Drinks: Herbal teas and nourishing soups can be comforting and hydrating.
-Hydration/Fluids: Offer water and fruits/veggies with high water content (oranges, cucumbers).
4. Quick Health Reminders: What You Can Do
-Check the weather and dress your child appropriately before school.
-Pack a spare set of dry clothes in their bag.
-Encourage hand washing before and after outdoor play.
Let's make this a healthy and joyful winter for all!
Kindly,
ECC School Nurse Amanda Peacock RN, BSN
