- Students who arrive after testing begins can be sent to the LRC.
Thank you all for your flexibility, hard work and support as we navigate testing season together!
π A New Spin on Finding the Perfect Book!
Looking for a completely different way to search for library books? Step away from the endless wandering and check out our brand-new Book Rolodex! This is a great way to help your students find their next great read through a fun, hands-on experience.
Here is how the new system works:
Flip and Find: Students flip through the physical cards on the rolodex to browse top picks until a book catches their eye.
Search the Title: Once theyβve found the perfect match, they can step right over to the Chromebooks stationed directly next to the rolodex.
Locate in Destiny: By typing the book's title into the Destiny Discover search engine, they can find exactly where it lives on the shelf and get ready to check it out!
Encourage your students to give it a spin next time they visit the library!
π March Book Madness: Week 3 Winner Announced!
The votes are in, the buzzer has sounded, and the results are official! We are thrilled to announce that our Week 3 March Book Madness winner is the hilarious and action-packed picture book, Piece Out by Alex Willan.
This massive fan-favorite captured readers' hearts and successfully navigated its way past the competition to advance to the next round of our bracket.
So, is your bracket still standing, or are your predictions totally busted? Take a breather, dust off your reading lists, and get your game face onβwe are getting ready to tip off Week Four of our epic literary tournament!
π¨ One School One Book: Art Activity!
We are thrilled to launch the art portion of our One School One Book program! Over the next couple of weeks, our 3rd through 5th-grade students will tap into their creativity by designing unique self-portraits that beautifully showcase who they are.
To help our older students get started, our incredibly talented art teacher, Julie Lambert, has put together an awesome slideshow teaching us how to create a self-portrait in the style of Frida Kahlo.
3-5 OSOB Self-Portrait Instructions
In addition, this project goes beyond a self-portraitβstudents are encouraged to weave elements of their own identity, such as their talents, heritage, and culture, into their artwork. Once the basic face is drawn, the real fun begins! Please use the slideshow link on page 5 to discover how students can add these personal touches to make their portraits uniquely theirs.
π Project Timeline
Please take note of the schedule for our self-portrait creations and display prep:
March 16th β 27th: Grades 3-5 Self-Portraits (Don't forget to click through the slideshow to get started!)
April 6th β April 17th: Grades K-2 Self-Portraits (Our younger students will be getting a helping hand from their older buddies!)
April 20th β April 30th: Prepping Artwork for Display
Questions or Need Help? We want everyone to have fun with this! If you have any questions, run into trouble, or just need a little artistic inspiration, please don't hesitate to reach out to Kristine for help.
π¨ Save a Story: The "Read Me or Weed Me" Collection!
Have you ever wanted to rescue a book? Now is your chance! Weβve just launched our new Read Me or Weed Me highlighted collection, featuring titles that need your help to stay on our shelves.
Here is the scoop: every book in this special display has had five or fewer checkouts over the last five years. Because library shelf space is precious, these lonely books are currently on our removal list.
Their fate is in your hands! If these books aren't checked out and read by students this school year, they will be permanently weeded from our library to make room for new inventory. Come browse the display, discover a hidden gem, and save a great story from being removed.
Stop by the library and check one out today before it's gone for good!
