A letter from Principal Baldwin
Dear Mav Nation
As we begin the month of November, I want to take a moment to thank our entire school community for an amazing October. Together, we celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month, enjoyed a memorable Homecoming, and reinforced the importance of making healthy choices during Red Ribbon Week. Your participation, school spirit, and support helped make these events meaningful and successful for our students.
November is our Month of Service, a time for us to focus on giving back, helping others, and demonstrating the character, leadership, and compassion that make our school community strong. It is also an important academic month as we approach the final weeks of the grading period.
For the next 15 school days, I encourage all students to refocus on the habits that lead to success:
- Take care of your grades. Stay on top of assignments, seek help when needed, and give your best effort each day.
- Be on time. Arrive at school and every class ready to learn.
- Follow the Alvin ISD dress code. Taking pride in our appearance helps create a positive learning environment.
- Wear your school ID every day. Having your ID visible helps us maintain a safe and secure campus while ensuring a smooth start to each school day.
- Stay engaged and respectful. Make choices that reflect our school values and contribute to a positive campus culture.
As we work together to support student success, I would also like to remind families of the importance of resolving concerns at the lowest level and following the campus chain of command. Most issues can be addressed quickly and effectively when they begin with the staff member closest to the situation. For example, concerns regarding classroom grades, assignments, or academic performance should always begin with the classroom teacher.
Each student is supported by a dedicated Student Support Team, which includes their Alpha Principal, Alpha Counselor, and Attendance Clerk. These team members are available to assist students and families with academic, attendance, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. We encourage families to partner with their student's support team to ensure every child receives the assistance they need to be successful.
Families, your partnership is critical to student success. Please continue to monitor grades, encourage regular attendance, and help ensure your child arrives at school on time, in dress code, and wearing their school ID every day. Together, we can help every student finish this grading period strong.
Thank you for your continued support of our school. I am proud of all we have accomplished and excited to see what we can achieve during this Month of Service. Let's work together to make November a month of growth, achievement, service to others, and academic excellence.
Hoka Hey!
Jamie Baldwin, Principal

2027 Moody Gardens Youth Volunteer Program - SAVY
What is SAVY?
The Society for the Advancement of Volunteer Youth or S.A.V.Y. offers teens (ages 13 to 17) the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of career fields while volunteering in education, biology, conservation, and tourism. Throughout the summer S.A.V.Y.s will participate in educational presentations, classes on animal care, and conservation projects. Volunteers will also have opportunities in leadership within volunteer swaps and summer camps.
Are there any requirements?
Applicants must be 13 by June 1st, 2027, and cannot be 18 before August 31st, 2027.
Applicants must attend an interview with Volunteer Services.
Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation and proof to receive an invitation to interview.
SAVYs must complete 6 shifts in June, 6 shifts in July, 3 shifts in August, and 3 Continuing Educational Classes.
A single shift is about 4 hours with the option of AM shift (9 to 12) or PM shift (1 to 5). If a SAVY does two shifts in a day they are given an hour lunch.
We are open every day this summer, so SAVYs choose when they would like to volunteer based on their own schedule.
Attend orientation at the start of summer.
What is a SAVY's day like?
First-year SAVYs will be partnered on educational carts throughout the property, teaching guests about exhibits, animals, and conservation. If SAVYs come to volunteer for the following winter or summer session and are 14 or older, they will partner with our biologists and gain hands-on experience with animal care. Throughout the summer SAVYs will attend Continuing Education Classes. These classes range in topic from CPR & First Aid to Jellyfish Biology! SAVYs 15 and older interested in education can have the opportunity to volunteer to become a counselor-in-training for our summer camps! Our Counselors-In-Training assist with summer camps, learning what it takes to be a counselor and teacher.
Apply for SAVYs:
The 2027 Summer SAVY Application will open around December.

Is your student on track to earn a CCMR Point?
As we look ahead to a successful 2025-26 school year, we want to make you aware of a new state law, House Bill 1481, which was passed by the Texas Legislature. House Bill 1481 prohibits students from using personal communication devices during the school day.
This law applies to:
- Cell phones
- Smartwatches
- Earbuds and headphones
- Tablets or any device that can text, call, record, or access the internet
In Alvin ISD, the expectation is simple: Not Seen. Not Heard. Not Taken.
Students may bring phones and personal electronic devices to school.
However, from the moment students enter the building in the morning until the final dismissal bell cell phones must be powered off or silenced, stored in a backpack or locker, and not used during class, passing periods, lunch, or restroom breaks.
Use in the Hallways
The use of personal communication devices in prohibited at all times.
Use at Lunch
Lunch is considered part of the school day so the use of electronic devices is prohibited under Texas Law.
Emergency Situations
Administrators may approve the use of cell phones in emergency situations where the device is necessary for the health or safety of students or others.
The Texas law requires school districts to administer disciplinary consequences if students violate the personal communication device policy in schools. Each infraction of this policy will result in the following escalating consequences:
- First offense – Device taken, returned to student
- Second – Parent must pick up
- Third – $15 fine + parent pickup
Refusal to hand over a device = disciplinary action per the Student Code of Conduct
Why this matters:
This law supports focused classrooms, respectful spaces, and safe learning for all.
Parents:
Please talk with your child about expectations before school starts. For emergencies, contact the campus office.
