Cedarbrook Women's Student Union: 2025 Empowering Women Presentation

On Wednesday, March 19, seventh grade English teacher Erin Gilbert hosted the Women's Student Union's third annual Empowering Women assembly in celebration of Women's History Month. Members of Cedarbrook's various student unions and student council were invited, as they heard from a panel of fabulous female professionals. This year's panel included Alexandra Ingram (executive director, Make the Distinction), Nydia Han (Emmy award-winning journalist/anchor, 6ABC), Rebecca Abboud (Emmy award-winning video producer/director), Majdah al Qahtani (founder, Altus Wealth Management and member of Cetera Financial Group's DEIB Council and Women's Council), and Sophia Lee, Esq. (lawyer, adjunct professor at Temple University, DEI advocate, and special advisor to the CEO for Girl Scouts of Eastern PA). The panel discussed their respective careers, highs and lows, and their educational journeys. They shared important advice regarding picking yourself back up after setbacks, standing up for yourself, being prepared for the job and for interviews, having confidence, taking risks, and being a leader. The assembly left students inspired and empowered, providing them with valuable insights and motivation to pursue their dreams with confidence and resilience.

CPESA in Action

Cheltenham High School's Cultural Proficiency and Equity Student Ambassadors (CPESA) hosted a consortium Wednesday with visiting schools North Penn, Hatboro-Horsham, Upper Merion and Wissahickon focused on social justice, and embodying the school's commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment. This event provided a platform for students to engage in meaningful dialogues about systemic issues and explore ways to advocate for themselves and their peers. By fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and collaboration, the consortium encouraged students to view their diverse backgrounds and experiences as assets, aligning with the school's mission to deliver high-quality education in a welcoming and supportive environment. We are proud of CHS Student Ambassadors for demonstrating leadership and dedication to promoting positive change within their school community.

SSAC @ CBK

Dr. Scriven convened his Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council at Cedarbrook on Wednesday to talk about what the students would like to convey to Elkins Park’s sixth graders before they matriculate at CBK. “Take advantage of all of the resources and help you can get,” “communicate with your teacher,” “avoid the drama,” and “find a way to balance academics and extracurriculars” were among the most popular answers. Dr. Scriven is planning a trip for CBK SSAC members to Elkins Park this spring to speak with sixth graders about their transition to middle school.

Photo of the Week

It was Taco Tuesday in the art room at Wyncote! First grade is learning clay skills like slab making, pinching, coiling, and slipping and scoring, while creating fun food sculptures inspired by contemporary artist Mechelle Bounpraseuth! It’s so important for students to learn about empowering female artists during Women’s History Month so they can see where art might lead them in their future!
