Mrs. Michels Weekly Updates
Let's make it a great week!
Weekly Updates! August 26-September 5th
Hello Hamilton Families,
Welcome back!! We are very excited to see all of our students back on Tuesday. I hope your summer was wonderful! I had a great summer spending time with my grandson! It was great being a full time grandma this summer! The Hamilton Staff has already been hard at work getting the building cleaned and ready. The teachers have set up warm and inviting rooms to welcome our students for a great year of learning and growing.
On the first day of school only, parents may walk students into class. After the first day it is all hugs and high fives outside. All students are expected to enter and exit their grade level doors unless an arrangement is made with me ahead of time.
Please make sure your child's teacher is aware of how your child will get home on the first day. Telling your child to tell the teacher is not a reliable method. Please send a Dojo or note to the teacher.
Class Assignment
You can view your child's assigned teacher in the parent portal. If you need help accessing your account please call the office at 734 419-2650

Open House
We hope you will join us for Open House on Wednesday 8/27 from 4:30-6. I will present some information in the cafeteria from 4:30-5 then you will be welcome to visit your child's classroom and specials teachers from 5-6. This is a great way to get to know your child's teacher and get classroom information about the school year. Classrooms will not be open until 5:00.
Welcome to our new staff this year!
Ms Ashely Speirs - Emotionally Impaired Program teacher
Mrs. Brenda Eisele- Speech Pathologist
Mrs. Colleen Hahn-Kindergarten aid
Mrs. Amber Helms- Kindergarten aid
Ms Alexis Carr-Kindergarten aid
Madden- Facility dog
Arrival-Dismissal
Please keep safety first and follow the posted signs in the parking lot and around the school. If you are getting out of the driver set you must pull your car into a parking place. You many not pull along the curb in the front parking lot and get out of your car. If you are getting out of your vehicle, you must pull into a parking space. Thank you in advance for your support with this safety concern.
Students may enter the building at 8:15. Students need to enter their grade level door unless they are a safety or enter with a younger sibling. If you have more than one child you can arrange with me for your children to all enter the youngest child's door if that works better for your family. Feel free to send me a dojo message or email at michelsk@wwcsd.net to arrange that.
For those of you who are new to Hamilton there will be signs and adults outside on the first day to direct you to the correct door.
Lunch
Please label your child's back pack, lunch bag/box, water bottle etc. this is a major help in getting items returned to their owner with left behind! Please remember that students may only have plain water in class. We do not allow flavored water, juice, pop or any other beverage in the classroom as it causes problems when spilled. Students are free to bring non-carbonated drinks for their lunch. Students also may not get Door Dash, Gubhub or other delivery service food delivered at school. All students are offered free breakfast and lunch daily.

Madden:
Madden is our Hamilton Facility dog ( the only dog allowed on campus). Madden will be at Hamilton three to four days a week starting in October ( just shorter visits for now). As part of this experience, students will learn about different types of working dogs and the important roles they play. Facility dogs like Madden are specifically trained to work in settings such as schools, police departments, and hospitals. They perform tasks that support the needs of the facility and its people.
Through the Dogs in Schools program, facility dogs like Madden work with children and adults, offering academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support. Madden will support students in a variety of ways, including:
Participating in academic interventions (e.g., students can read to him)
Providing comfort by lying across a student’s lap
Rolling large dice or engaging with props during lessons
Offering emotional support and a calming presence for students and staff
The district has followed all training and immunization guidelines provided by Canines for Change and our veterinary partners to ensure Madden is healthy, well-prepared, and safe for our school environments. We are very excited to welcome Madden to our Hamilton community!
Class Dojo
If you have not already you will soon receive an invite to join our Class Dojo. This is a FREE password protected app that allows for great home and school communication. If the app asks you to pay, do not. There is no payment required or necessary for the app that we use. Reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions regarding Class Dojo.
Volunteers
Chaperone and Volunteer Background (ICHAT) Request
The Board encourages the use of volunteers to support the School District. Because the safety of the School District´s students is of paramount importance, every individual volunteer is required to undergo a criminal background check through the Michigan State Police Internet Criminal History Access Tool (ICHAT) before they are permitted to volunteer, regardless of whether or not the volunteer will work directly with students. ICHAT criminal background checks will be performed annually for each volunteer.
When the background check is complete, a list of approved chaperones and volunteers will be shared with our school secretaries / principals / assistant principals on a "need to know" basis. The ICHATS will be kept on file for the current school year.
Parents may elect not to be screened. Please note that if you are not screened you will not be able to chaperone or drive any children other than your own on field trips.
Depending on the volume of ICHAT requests, it may take up to 10 days to screen the requests.
If you have any questions, please contact Human Resource at 734-419-2025.
Thank you for your continued support of our children here at Wayne-Westland Community Schools.

District Updates and News
Wayne-Westland Community Schools continues to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for the 2025-2026 school year. Our participation in CEP ensures that all enrolled students receive a healthy breakfast and lunch daily at NO CHARGE to your household.
To maintain our program status, parents and guardians are asked to complete and sign the Education Benefits Form, which is also located on the Meal Magic Family Portal, and return it to your child's school as soon as possible. The information on the form is needed for administrative purposes, not to determine eligibility.
This form is critical in determining the amount of money that your child's school receives from a variety of state and federal supplemental programs such as Title I A, At-Risk (31a), Title II A, E -Rate, etc. All information on the form submitted is confidential. Without your assistance, the school cannot maximize utilization of available state and federal funds.
If we can be of any further assistance, please contact our Food Services Department at 734-419-2118.
Transportation
For students who ride the bus, please make sure they are at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to the assigned time as the routes can run early from time to time. The same is true at the end of the day, please be at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to drop off just incase they are early. Keep in mind the first month of school the route times vary quite a bit. Having the Here comes the bus app helps you to know exactly where the bus is.
All Young 5's and Kindergarten students must be met by an adult at the bus before they will be let off the bus. If you want your child to be released to an older sibling or family member you can fill out a form in the office to give to the driver.
Wayne-Westland Community Schools has partnered with Here Comes the Bus to offer families an app that will help avoid students and parents from waiting too long for the bus. Here Comes the Bus allows parents to see where their child’s bus is along the route and when it will be at their bus stop.
Wondering where the bus is? Now you’ll know.

Corewell Clinic at Adams Middle School
The Corewell School Based Health Clinic at Adams Middle School is a great resource available to children ages 3 to 21 that live or attend school in Wayne/Westland. They provide medical services including: sports physicals, well child exams, school and childhood vaccines, hearing and vision screenings, sick visits, as well as mental health counseling. The clinic accepts all insurances, but no one is ever turned away for the inability to pay. They also have staff trained to assist families apply for medicaid. They are a great option if your student needs back to school vaccines or sports physicals and can't get into their PCP office, have no insurance, or can't pay a copayment. Appointments are highly recommended. They are open 5 days a week and hours vary. Call 734-728-2423 to schedule an appointment or if you have any questions.
