Flexible Instruction Day (FID) Plan
Elementary Parent Responsibilities 2025-2026
Below you will find a helpful document outlining general information about Flexible Instruction Days (FID), our district communication plan, and expectations for both synchronous and asynchronous instruction, as well as general information for UDSD elementary students and the responsibilities of UDSD elementary parents.
General Information About FID
As parents/guardians, you can help ensure a successful Flexible Instructional Day (FID). This is a day when students learn online from home.
Your child(ren):
Must have their district-issued Chromebook and charger at home each night
Must use Classlink to:
Access Schoology
Access online materials
Must use a Google Meet Link
District Communication Plan:
The superintendent will send an email and make a call to announce a change to a Flexible Instructional Day (FID). At that time, the call will announce the type of instruction your child will receive during the virtual day:
Synchronous learning is live, online instruction with your child’s teacher and classmates.
- Asynchronous learning is independent, working on assignments given by the teacher.
Support:
Elementary Students
General Information:
Building principals will communicate with parents and students via district email and Schoology. They will outline specific information about the daily schedule and the specific letter rotation day.
Attendance:
Please follow the directions below to have student attendance recorded.
- Homeroom teachers will take attendance based on who logs into the Google Meet.
Asynchronous Instruction
All assignments must be submitted by the end of the day for attendance and grading purposes.
Synchronous Plan:
Learning is live, online instruction with your child’s teacher and classmates.
Classroom Teachers K-5
Homeroom teachers will email parents and students with specific information about the class schedule for the day.
The email will include a Google Meet Link for students to use to interact with their teacher online.
The schedule will look like a typical school day, only it will be virtual.
Teachers will be providing instruction and supporting student learning through a virtual platform.
Students must use the Google Meet link to log into their class.
Homeroom teachers will take attendance based on who logs into the Google Meet.
Teachers will post assignments and activities in Schoology for students to complete.
These assignments and activities can be completed with the teacher or independently, depending on the assignment, teacher preference, and student grade level.
The teacher will communicate when the assignments are due in Schoology; however, they must be turned in no later than the end of the school day.
If the teacher requires a hard copy of the assignment, the teacher should note this in Schoology. These assignments would be due at the start of the next in-person school day.
Special Teachers K-5 (Art, Music, PE, and Library)
Special teachers will provide a Google Meet link to students so they can participate in their special classes on a virtual day.
Assignments and activities will be posted in Schoology for students to complete.
These assignments and activities can be completed with the teacher or independently, depending on the teacher's preference and the student's grade level.
The teacher will communicate when the assignments are due in Schoology. However, they must be turned in by the end of the school day.
If the teacher requires a hard copy of the assignment, the teacher should note this in Schoology. These assignments will be due at the start of the next in-person school day.
For example, an art teacher may require a hard copy of a sketch upon returning to school the next day.
Asynchronous Plan:
Learning is independent, and students are working on assignments given by the teacher.
The same communication plan will be implemented. The district will advise the student body that they are to log into Schoology and complete all assignments asynchronously.
This plan will follow the student’s daily schedule:
Teachers will post asynchronous lessons and instructional activities in Schoology for each class/course.
All assignments will be submitted by the end of the day for attendance and grading purposes.
Teachers will take attendance based on work completed.
At the end of the day, students who fail to participate in the FID will be considered absent and should be marked as such in eSchool.
If students cannot connect, they must submit a hard copy of their work the following day.
Teachers will be checking their email throughout the day if there are any questions.
