Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year!
Dear DMS Families,
We have had a fantastic first two days welcoming our new and returning Falcons to Dighton Middle School! A special thank you to the staff and members of our Central Office Leadership Team who helped welcome our students for their first days. Our halls and classrooms have been filled with excitement, energy, and plenty of smiling faces as students reconnect with friends, meet new teachers and classmates, and begin settling into their routines.
Over these first few days, our students have been busy learning the expectations and routines that will help make DMS a safe, positive, and supportive place for everyone. They have also begun getting a glimpse of the exciting learning that lies ahead in their classrooms this year.
We are so proud of how our Falcons have started the school year! Thank you to our students, families, and staff for helping make these first days such a positive and successful experience. We are excited for all that is ahead and look forward to an incredible year of learning, growth, and success.
A friendly reminder that there is no school scheduled for tomorrow, September 4th and Monday, September 7th. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday, September 8th!
Together, we SOAR! 💚💛
With Falcon Pride,
Dr. Cheryl Leandro, Principal cleandro@drregional.org

DR Never Forgets- September 11, 2026
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. As a district, we will recognize this important anniversary with “DR Never Forgets,” a districtwide day of remembrance, unity, and gratitude. On Friday, September 11, we invite students and staff across all five schools to wear red, white, and blue as we honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost, remember the extraordinary courage of the first responders and everyday Americans who stepped forward to help others, and recognize all those whose lives were forever changed by that day. For many of our students, September 11 is history rather than memory, which makes our responsibility to teach its lessons even more important. Twenty-five years later, DR remembers—not only what our country lost, but the courage, compassion, service, and unity Americans showed in the days that followed. #DRNeverForgets #WeAreDR
Together, We Are All Falcons! 💚💛
On Friday, September 18, our district will come together for “Together, We Are All Falcons!” - a celebration designed to ignite our districtwide spirit, honor our unified PK–12+ Falcon identity, and celebrate the pride that connects all five of our schools. Staff members are encouraged to wear their Convocation Day shirts, while students are invited to show their school spirit by wearing Green & Gold. This celebration builds on our long-standing Green & Gold Spirit Day tradition while giving it new meaning: from our youngest learners to our graduating seniors, we are all Falcons now. Let’s fill our schools with Green & Gold and celebrate what it means to be part of one district, one community, and one Falcon family. Together, We Are DR!

Homework Hacks to Help Your Child Be Successful
Homework can sometimes feel overwhelming, for students and families alike. The good news is that a few simple routines can help make homework time more manageable while encouraging students to become more independent and confident learners. Here are some practical strategies to help your child get off to a successful start:
Create a Homework Friendly Space
Help your child identify a place where they can focus and complete schoolwork. The goal is to create a space that matches your child’s individual needs and learning preferences.
Some Homework Friendly Spaces Include:
- In a quiet room with minimal distractions
- At the kitchen table where family members are nearby
- With access to a larger workspace for projects
- With specific tools or materials that help them learn
Establish a Consistent Routine
Work with your child to determine what time of day works best for completing homework. Some students find completing homework as soon as they get home works best, while others need a bit to of time and space to relax before getting started on homework. Once you find a routine that works, try to keep it consistent. A predictable routine can help students know what to expect and reduce the stress of getting started.
Prepare Before Getting Started
Encourage your child to gather everything they need before beginning their work. Many students find a check-list or schedule helpful.
A simple routine might be:
- Check the day's assignments.
- Gather necessary materials.
- Put away distractions such as a phone or gaming device.
- Decide which assignment to tackle first.
- Begin working.
Encourage Independence While Providing Support
One of the most important goals of homework is helping students become independent learners.
Adults at home can support students without doing the work for them. Some examples of support include:
- Help explain directions
- Answer a question
- Check completed work
- Help students organize their materials
- Encourage them to keep trying when something is difficult
If your child is stuck, try asking questions such as:
“What do you already know?”
“What does the assignment ask you to do?”
“What strategy could you try?”

Information Regarding School Meals
School Meals and Cafeteria Information
We are pleased to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students each school day. Our goal is to ensure that every child has access to nutritious meals that support their health, well-being, and success at school.
Weekly menus will be shared in our weekly newsletter to help families plan ahead.
Although meals are provided at no cost, milk and water are available for purchase each day for students who would like an additional beverage with their lunch.
As the school year gets underway, we will gradually introduce snack sales in the cafeteria.
Families may use cash or check for snack and beverage purchases. We also encourage families to consider MySchoolBucks, a convenient way to manage meal accounts. Through the MySchoolBucks website or app, families can create or manage an account, reset passwords, view balances, and add funds directly to their child’s account.
Finally, we kindly ask all families to complete the Free & Reduced Lunch Application, even though meals are provided free of charge. The information collected through these applications plays an important role in determining school funding and eligibility for valuable grant opportunities, which directly support our students and school community.
We appreciate your partnership in helping us make sure every student has access to the meals and resources they need to have a successful school day.
The Free & Reduced Lunch Application is linked below for your convenience.
