A Note from the Principal
Week 7, Day 30/180
Yesterday, all MCAS result letters were sent home to families. Although we value the data that MCAS provides, and use it to elevate our teaching practices and areas for improvement, we also recognize it is just one data point and does not define a student or their overall knowledge. We are incredibly proud of our students’ efforts and growth last year and look forward to seeing continued progress this year.
This week was another busy one at the Jacobs. Our 4th and 5th grade students spent time in the garden harvesting and planting, while our kindergarten students enjoyed the day today at Sauchuk Farms. We also welcomed Captain Ahlquist and other members of the Hull Fire Department for Fire Safety Presentations in grades PreK–5. Sessions covered practical, at-home safety topics such as smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, home escape plans, how to call 911, ice safety, and lithium-ion battery awareness. A highlight for our preschoolers was the chance to climb aboard the fire truck.
Captain Ahlquist also kicked off our annual Fire Safety Poster Contest, where one winner from each grade (prek-5) will earn the chance to ride the fire truck to school. Posters should focus on fire safety, with an option to include a lithium-ion battery safety message. All entries are due at the school (not the fire station) by Wednesday, October 15, and should include the student’s name, grade, and homeroom on the back. A big thank-you to Captain Ahlquist and the Hull Fire Department for their continued partnership in helping our Pirates stay safe both at school and at home.
Tomorrow, our middle school students will gather for their second JMS Meeting of the year, where the next House Challenge will be introduced, points will be awarded, and monthly updates shared. We may even see the return of Professor Bluebeard! JMS students are encouraged to wear their House colors!
