Also, shout out to her for setting up a super fun Valentine’s photo op wall for our staff and students. It added so much joy and excitement to the day — we truly appreciate the hard work and creativity you bring to our campus! 💖

Updated Field Trip Protocols
Student Identification: Every student must wear a school identifier (e.g., a school shirt, wristband, or name tag). Do not list student names on tags. The school name is sufficient.
Chaperone Assignments: Every chaperone must have a printed roster of their students and the Field Trip Lead’s cell phone number.
Communication: Leads must establish a communication system, with all chaperones' group text, GroupMe, etc., for all chaperones to coordinate lunch, meeting times, and emergencies. Please establish this before the campus leaves for the field trip.
Mandatory Briefing: Before leaving campus, the Field Trip Lead must meet with all chaperones to review these expectations and safety protocols so that everyone is on the same page.
The "Rule of Four" Counts: Conduct a full head count at four points:
Before boarding the bus at school.
Upon arrival at the site.
Before boarding the bus to return.
Upon arrival back at campus.
Parent Expectations (Please Communicate to Parents)
Extension of Classroom: These trips are learning experiences for the students. If parents who are not official school chaperones choose to attend, they should follow the directions provided by the lead teacher.
Group Safety: Parents who attend must stay with their child’s assigned group. They are not permitted to take their child aside from the group and walk the venue privately with their students.
No Early Check-outs: Parents are strictly prohibited from taking students from the site. Any student leaving early must be signed out through the school office following standard campus procedures.
Supervision & Support
Bus Policy: All chaperones must ride the bus to and from the venue with their assigned students.
Designated "Roamer": If possible, assign one extra staff member as a "Roamer" who does not have a specific student group. This person should be on call to support chaperones and handle any parent issues that arise.
Escalation: Chaperones should be instructed to call the Field Trip Lead immediately if a parent becomes difficult or attempts to take a student away from the venue site.

Upcoming District Observances: No One Eats Alone & Kindness Week
Dallas ISD will be observing No One Eats Alone and Kindness Week as part of a cross-departmental prevention initiative focused on strengthening connection and a sense of belonging for both students and staff. In partnership with Sandy Hook Promise, the district has shared a series of activities designed to build camaraderie through shared experiences across campuses.
February 13 – No One Eats Alone
No One Eats Alone (NOEA) is a national initiative that encourages kindness, empathy, and inclusion. On this day, campuses are encouraged to ensure that all students and staff take part in creating an inclusive lunchtime experience. Central staff are also encouraged to participate.
February 16–20 – Kindness Week
Kindness Week provides meaningful opportunities for students and staff to feel included, valued, and connected through intentional activities and shared moments throughout the week.
Resources and recommended activities will be provided to support campus implementation. These February observances serve as the district’s kickoff and align with our ongoing work to strengthen a culture of Belonging and Safety, including the efforts of campus SAVE Promise Clubs.

A Century of Black History Commemorations
The Office of School Improvement is excited to announce this year’s Black History Month theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations”. Each February, Dallas ISD celebrates the achievements of Black Americans and recognizes their critical role in U.S. History. This theme honors the 100th anniversary of the first Black History Week, created in 1926 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, celebrating the legacy, pride, and progress produced by lasting contributions over years.
We welcome everyone to participate in the following events and access these resources:
Virtual Kick-Off on January 30, 2026, led by Deputy Superintendent of Staff and Accountability, Dr. Pamela Lear.
Virtual Webinar Wednesdays occur at noon and feature local professionals sharing their career journeys and expertise.
Commemorative slide deck presentation highlighting achievements by African Americans and recognizing the significant roles of African Americans throughout U.S. history.
Interactive activities and resources located in Google Classroom, accessible to all teachers and staff by using this code 5 f q 6 m q t r .
Daily OSI Social Media posts spotlighting African American traditions and contributions.
While this programming will be celebrated during February, the OSI encourages schools to use these resources to augment books and activities to spark discussions year-round.
To access these resources, visit the Office of School Improvement website at https://bit.ly/DISDBlackHistoryMonth. Please contact Dr. Candyce Grant at canfranklin@dallasisd.org for more information.
