Deer Hill Retirements: Deer Hill has two staff members who are celebrating their retirement with the conclusion of this school year. At the CHS graduation last Saturday Principal Scott shared these words on my behalf in recognition of their dedicated service to the Deer Hill community.

Mrs. Patty Hamlin: Mrs. Hamlin has served students as the Deer Hill health teacher for the last seven years. During that time, she enhanced the health and wellness curriculum by writing a PSO grant to secure more than 175 new books on health topics and also by documenting the standards based grade 3-5 health curriculum through committee work and work completed on her own time. Mrs. Hamlin's genuine care for her students' physical and emotional health was evident in not only her lessons but also her daily interactions with them. Her Wellness Wheel was a cornerstone of the work she did and was a consistent reminder to students, and even staff, that our health should be a top priority. We congratulate Mrs. Hamlin and wish her all the best in retirement.

Mrs. Laurie Toppa: Laurie Toppa dedicated herself to Deer Hill students for over 25 years as a beloved ESP. It's common knowledge that ESPs are the glue of each building, and Mrs. Toppa not only kept Deer Hill held together through her many responsibilities but added glitter and sparkle to keep students engaged in learning. Within the many classrooms she served, Mrs. Toppa was a trusted colleague with an expertise in math who had a talent for supporting students at all levels. Additionally, she was always open to new ways to connect with students -- over the last several years, she has taught numerous before and after school enrichment classes from acting to coding to her specialty, math art, where students would ask her repeatedly, "How is this math? It's just so fun!". Next year Mrs. Toppa's absence will be felt greatly at Deer Hill though her positive impact on staff and students alike will endure.

5th Grade Send Off: Today we celebrated the class of 2032 as we sent them off to middle school. After our clap out and send off ceremony, 5th grade students enjoyed a fierce game of 5th grade vs. staff crazy kickball and a picnic lunch. Thank you, PSO for the planning, decorations, photo booth, memory book, swag, and icy treat! Here are some thoughts I shared with 5th graders and their families --- as they look ahead toward middle school, my hope is that they'll take the Skipper Creed with them and always choose kindness!

5th Grade Egg Drop Round 2: Thank you to the Cohasset Fire Department who put the engineering skills of our 5th graders to the ultimate test. Many devices were launched from the top of the ladder, and we had an "egg"cellent survival rate among the fragile cargo!
