Wasmer Weekly Update
August 24, 2025
August 25 - August 29
Beginning of Year Updates
Wildcat Families,
First full week of school is officially in the books. Our students ROCKED getting into routines, diving into grade level curriculum, and taking assessments for teachers to know how to support in reading and math.
Each student in our building took a reading assessment called the Dynamic Indicators of Early Basic Reading Skills (DIBELS). This assesses students on their current ability to:
-Hear sounds in words (phonemic awareness)
-Word reading
-Identifying letter names (kindergarten and first grade)
-Decoding (how students sound out words to read a whole word)
-Fluency (the students ability to read like they talk) in one minute
Each student in our building has taken or will take the math Measure of Academic Progress (MAP). this assesses students on their current ability to solve:
-Number sense (understanding numbers by place value)
-Algebra (solving equations)
-Geometry
-Data
Our teachers will be using this data in addition to classroom data to determine exactly what your student needs to grow in either area. You student may share that they go to a different teacher during WIN (What I Need) time.
