Hello Roxhill Families,

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! We are so excited to welcome you back to Roxhill and especially want to extend a warm welcome to all of our new Roxstars and families joining our community. It has been a quiet summer at the building, but our custodial engineers have been hard at work ensuring that our learning spaces are spruced up in time for classes to begin.

As we get ready for the first days of school, now is a great time to begin easing back into school routines. Try winding down in the evening with a good book, keeping devices away before bedtime, and picking out outfits and packing backpacks the night before. If you're like me, you let routines relax during the summer, but taking the time to reset now will make September that much easier.

We can't wait to see you soon and begin another wonderful year of learning, growing, reading, and writing our stories together! Please see below for important information and events to start the new school year.

With excitement,

~Principal Bruno

Staffing Update Staffing Update

Roxhill's beloved Art Teacher, Ms. Binkow
zoom_out_map

As many of you are aware, Roxhill received a notice of reduced staffing during our district's June budget adjustment. Due to a projected drop in average annual full-time student enrollment, we lost a primary classroom teaching position. Because our specialists allocation is directly driven by the number of classrooms, this reduced our Art Teacher position to half-time. This was really difficult news to receive. The classroom position reduction did not impact current teachers as we had several staff making moves to other schools (or countries!) already for personal reasons.

We were overwhelmed with the outpouring of support for our Art Teacher, Ms. Binkow (pictured here). Our community rallied and made the voices of Roxhill heard, sharing their belief in the importance of art education. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Unfortunately, the reduction stands. Ms. Binkow has accepted another 0.5 elementary art placement and will split time between Roxhill and another SPS school. In accordance with state procedures and the SPS district-wide funding formula, average annual full-time student enrollment will be re-evaluated in early October. If we have an increase in enrollment, there is a possibility that the reduced positions would be restored at that time.

How You Can Help

With our current district-wide funding formula, classroom teacher positions and specialist positions are driven by enrollment.

  • Share your experience at Roxhill with others, especially neighbors! We are a neighborhood school and most of our enrollment comes from within our attendance boundary. Folks rely on word-of-mouth, message boards on social media, and rating sites like GreatSchools when considering their options.
  • Do you know someone outside our attendance boundary who is interested in attending Roxhill? Encourage them to apply for Roxhill through the Open Enrollment process in January.
  • Do you know a neighbor with an incoming Kindergartner? Encourage them to enroll early! We get our first enrollment projections in February for the next school year and our school leadership team collaborates to create a budget based on those numbers. Early enrollment means we're less likely to have changes in June or even October after the school year has begun.
  • Support Roxhill's enrollment efforts this winter. Be on the look out for school tour information, the annual SPS enrollment fair, and Kindergarten enrollment support sessions between November - January of this coming 26-27 school year. Join us and help spread the word!

Incoming Kindergartners are invited to join us at Roxhill Elementary on Monday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 25 from 9 am - 12 pm. We will have a caregiver question and answer session at pick-up time on Tuesday, August 25.

Please complete the registration form so that we may plan a fun and safe introduction to Kindergarten. You and your kindergartener(s) will have the opportunity to meet teachers and staff members, visit classrooms, and meet and play with new friends!

If your student has health concerns, please complete the Seattle Public Schools required health forms. Link found here: Seattle Schools Health Forms. Please email or fax forms and/or questions to Nurse Ann, Roxhill School Nurse: aeperry@seattleschools.org, fax: 206-7433166.

Plan to connect with Nurse Ann by phone between August 12 and August 26th to review your child’s health concern(s). We will make a health care plan together to ensure we know how to support your child’s health and safety while they are at school.

Summer Learning Roxstars Summer Learning Roxstars

Three cheers for the 13 Roxstar students who completed the Summer Learning program at Highland Park Elementary! We heard from Principal McDaniel and staff that they did some excellent learning and had a lot of fun together too. We're impressed with these scholars and can't wait to hear all about it!
