Principal's Message
Good Evening Weymouth High School Community,
We are starting December with a month full of activities. This weekend we had the 54th WHS Craft Fair which is a fundraiser for the senior class and was well attended.
Winter sports tryouts were held last week and all teams are preparing for their first competitions. If you are a winter athlete, please see a message from AD Kelly about user fees and uniform distribution below in the Athletics section.
We had a fantastic turnout for Community Unity Night on Thursday, where our Human Rights Club (HRC) hosted the 4th Annual Community Unity Talent Show. The evening began with an art show and featured incredible performances from the WHS Step Team, WHS Dance Team, the In-Treble A Cappella group, WHS singers, speakers, and poets, along with the Chapman Step Team and the middle school band, Lost N’ Found. The night wrapped up with a vibrant Multicultural Fashion Show!
Our students showcased tremendous talent, and we are so proud of their work. Events like this remind us how important it is to celebrate both our students and our community.
The night also included an interactive activity, “We All Fit Together!”, where attendees wrote messages on individual puzzle pieces and added them to a larger community puzzle—a powerful display of belonging and unity.
Student Spotlight
Our Football Team are Herget Division Bay State Conference Champions! This is our first league title since 2012 and our first Thanksgiving Day victory since 2018. Congratulations to the team on a great season!
Our Marching Band earned 3rd place in their division, and both the Drumline and Color Guard captured 2nd place in the Quincy Christmas Parade. They looked and sounded fantastic!
Congratulations to the 21 students from the Weymouth Music Department who were selected for the Southeastern District Festival. Performers will travel to New Bedford High School in January to perform with hundreds of the best student musicians on the south shore. Special shout out to our four band students and two chorus students who earned all-state recommendations!
Resource Board for Families
We’re excited to share a new addition to our Sunday Message—the Family Resource Board! This section is designed to support families with quick, reliable resources. Check out the Announcements and Reminders below for helpful information on mental health, vaping, and cell phone guidance.
Competency Determination
As you may be aware, beginning with the graduating class of 2026 Weymouth students must meet the competency determination requirements outlined in Massachusetts General Law 30.03 in order to receive a high school diploma. To earn a diploma, students must successfully complete local graduation requirements and earn a competency determination. These requirements are in addition to the WPS graduation requirements. More detailed information about the competency determination can be found on Page 17 of the WHS Program of Studies, as well as in this document: WHS Competency Determination. If you have any questions about these requirements, please contact Karen Monahan.
Progress Reports
We are at the midpoint of our Term 2, progress reports will be accessible in Aspen X2 on Friday, December 12th at 1 pm. If you would like a printed copy of the progress report please contact Dorothea Sansone at 781-337-7500 ext. 25126. Use the link to find your child’s Progress Report/Report Card
Winter Art Show and Concert
We invite you to join us for the annual Winter Art Show & Concert on Thursday, December 11th! The Art Show will begin at 6:30 pm in the Maroon Lobby, followed by the Concert at 7 pm in the WHS Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public, though donations are welcome. The Art Show will feature student artwork from grades 9-12, and the concert will include performances by the WHS Jazz Band, Concert Choir and Concert Band. We look forward to seeing you there!
Reverse College Day
On Monday, December 22nd, Weymouth High School is holding Reverse College Day. What is Reverse College Day? RCD is an opportunity for WHS juniors and seniors to partake in a college fair right in your own backyard. You will have an opportunity to speak to your peers as we’ve invited back recent WHS grads (Class of 2025) to represent their current college. They will be available to discuss college life in general and inform you on academic as well as social issues relevant to their college experience. It is a great opportunity for our students to get information about area schools and hear reflections on college life. Juniors may sign up to attend from 8:33 to 9:22 am and seniors can sign up to attend from 9:26 to 10:15 am.
