The word of the month for November is Critical Thinking. 💙

Instead of always giving children the answers, encourage them to explore their own ideas. Open-ended questions help children explain their thinking, use their imagination, and consider different possibilities.

Try asking your child:

  • “What do you think happened, and why?”
  • “How could we find out?”
  • “What else might be possible?”
  • “What would you do differently?”

At home: When reading a story together, ask your child why a character made a particular choice or what they think might happen next. Give them time to explain their ideas without rushing to correct them.

Every school day counts! When students are here and on time, they build strong habits, stay on track with learning, and feel more connected to their school community. Let’s work together to make every day a great day for learning because showing up is the first step to success!

We know attendance is a BIG deal in ACADEMIC SUCCESS. Every full week your child is here, they will be entered into a drawing to eat with our SRO for the 2nd Nine Weeks.

PERFECT ATTENDANCE

CELEBRATION TIME!! WOO HOO!! We had 36 students with perfect attendance!! The students enjoyed a sundae party. Thank you parents for making it a priority to bring your students to school.

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT THE GREAT THINGS AT LEA!! EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT THE GREAT THINGS AT LEA!!

💙Little Cats, BIG Accomplishments!

What a wonderful time it is to be a Little Cat! Our halls have been filled with exciting activities, special visitors, celebrations, and opportunities for our students to learn and shine. From recognizing academic growth to enjoying time with our community, we are reminded every day of what makes Lea Elementary so special. Here’s a look at some of the highlights and memories we’ve made together!

Lea Little Cats Most Growth Run:

At Lea Elementary, we believe that hard work and growth deserve to be celebrated! We recognized the students who demonstrated the MOST GROWTH in Math and Reading in each classroom during our Lea Little Cats Most Growth Run!

Our outstanding Little Cats proudly wore their hero capes and ran down the hallway alongside some very special guests — our very own LHS football players! With classmates cheering them on, our students were celebrated for their dedication, perseverance, and academic progress.

It was an unforgettable way to recognize the effort our students put into learning and growing. We are incredibly proud of our Little Cats and their commitment to doing their best!

Fire Prevention Week:

Safety first, Little Cats! During Fire Prevention Week, members of the Lovington Fire Department visited Lea Elementary to share important fire safety information with our students. They discussed everyday safety practices, including how to use cell phone charging cords safely and the importance of being aware of potential fire hazards.

We appreciate the time our local firefighters took to educate our students and help keep our community safe. A big thank-you to the Lovington Fire Department for being such wonderful community partners!

Bringing a Book to Life in the Library:

A good story is even more exciting when you can bring it to life! Mrs. Banister, our wonderful librarian, read The Paletero Man to our students, sharing a fun story that celebrates community, culture, and the joy of paletas.

To make the experience even sweeter, students enjoyed a popsicle after the story! It was a delightful way to connect reading with real-life experiences and remind our Little Cats that books can take us on all kinds of adventures.

Thank you, Mrs. Banister, for creating fun and engaging reading experiences for our students.

Lea Little Cats Show Their Pride at Homecoming:

Our Little Cats showed their school spirit during the Homecoming Parade! We loved seeing our students proudly riding on the float and waving to the crowd as they represented Lea Elementary.

A special thank-you to our amazing PAWS parents for helping bring everything together and making our parade entry possible. We are also grateful to Dear One (Juan Angel and Brenda Arciniega) for including us in the parade and giving our students the opportunity to be part of this exciting community tradition.

Thank you to all the families who came out to support us. Your involvement and enthusiasm help make these special moments even more meaningful for our students!

Celebrating our Top Fundraiser Winners:

We were excited to recognize our top three fundraiser winners and celebrate their outstanding efforts! We appreciate the enthusiasm and participation that made our fundraiser a success.

Thank you to everyone who contributed, participated, and supported our school. Your generosity and involvement help us continue creating meaningful experiences and opportunities for our Little Cats!

As we look back on these special moments, we are reminded that it takes a caring school community to help children thrive. Every celebration, learning opportunity, and shared experience helps make Lea Elementary a place where students feel supported, encouraged, and proud to be Little Cats.

Thank you to our families, staff, volunteers, and community partners for being such an important part of our school family. We look forward to making more memories, celebrating new accomplishments, and watching our Little Cats continue to learn, grow, and shine!

Lea Pick-up and Drop-off Procedures Lea Pick-up and Drop-off Procedures

Dear Parents,

Please be aware that our campus pick-up and drop-off lane may extend all the way to 9th Street. Although the line may seem long, rest assured that our staff is working quickly and efficiently to identify vehicles and notify our inside staff. This helps ensure your child is ready and waiting when you arrive at the designated loading zone.

FOR DROP OFF: Please have your student on the passenger side of the car so we can unload safely.

FOR PICK UP: Please make sure that your car is clear to load your child on the passenger side of the car. Staff will not load on the driver's side. Please stay in your car and do not attempt to load your child on the driver's side. This is for everyone's safety. Please make sure to place the car tag where it is visible to staff.

We truly appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work together to keep our students safe and traffic flowing smoothly. Thank you for your continued support!

The picture below shows the flow of the pickup line. The pink area is our 4 car loading zone. We will have cones in place to help our families know where to pull up, park and wait while their child is loaded by our staff.

Morning Drop-Off Procedures

  • For safety and efficiency, we ask that all parents REMAIN IN THEIR VEHICLE during drop off.
  • The staff parking area is not a drop off area. Please follow the procedures.
  • Drop off begins at 7:30
  • Students should not be left unattended before drop off time.
  • All students will enter through the front of the building except those who ride the bus. The bus will drop them off in the bus lane and a staff member will be there to guide them inside.
  • Parents will drive vehicle through the drop-off lane in front of the school and wait till your car is either 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in the designated area. There will be numbers to identify those four areas. Students should be on passenger side of the car once the car has came to a complete stop. The passenger side is the side closest to the sidewalk.
  • Once the car has came to a complete stop, we will have staff assisting students.
  • Stay in line and follow the car in front of you, do not attempt to cut in line because it will slow our loading process. You will be asked to circle back around if you cut.
  • Be ALERT and follow directions of staff to ensure line runs smoothly and most importantly SAFE for our students.
  • Once you have dropped off you will turn RIGHT on BIRCH St. There is a traffic sign that reminds you no LEFT turns.

After School Pick-up Procedures

  • Parents must use pick up procedures.
  • For safety and efficiency, we ask that all parents REMAIN IN THEIR VEHICLE during pick-up.

  • The staff parking area is not a designated area for pickup.
  • School is out at 3:40, Please make arrangements to get your child picked up at that time.
  • NO STUDENT WILL BE SIGNED OUT AFTER 3:20, this is a critical time in which staff is wrapping up the end of the day to get students ready for pick up.
  • In order for our pick up lane to run smoothly we kindly ask that if you need to pick up your child, please do so before 3:20.
  • If you forget your tag, please wait in the blue benches until our staff can attend you.
  • The pick up lane will run similar to the drop off.
  • You will have the 4 designated spots at the front of the line in which you will pick up your child.
  • A staff member will be waking the sidewalk sending the names of students to our inside staff, so that we can have the students ready when you arrive at the 4 designated pick up spots.
  • In order for this process to go quicker, please DISPLAY or HOLD up to windshield the child tag that you will receive when you come meet your teacher, so that our text staff can see it. If you are ready with your sign for us to see, it will help move the pick up line quicker.
  • Stay in line and follow the car in front of you.
  • Staff will guide your child to your car.
  • Bus students will be guided by staff to show them where bus waiting area will be.

No Deliveries

We would like to gently remind you that we will not have accept any deliveries of food or birthday gifts. Students will be allowed to celebrate their birthday's, as long as you make arrangements with their teacher.
