The Braintree Buzz
Principal's Update
It was a Happy Halloween here at Braintree Monday! Check out pictures from our Costume Parade. In other news, intermediate students began painting with local artist Barbara Carter to create signage for the Braintree Blossoms Farmstand and worked on nonfiction reading strategies with Ms. J. I worked with a group of third graders on their math enrichment project, making a scale model of the school. I also had the chance to facilitate a Number Talk with our preschoolers on Thursday, deepening understanding of 1 and 2 and considering a real-world problem. They were elated for Teacher Harriet's return!
We had to create a new school Facebook page. Please like it to keep up to date with our latest news and events!
On Friday we went on a school-wide field trip to the Chandler Center for the Arts to see the Garifuna Collective. We are so fortunate to have field trip opportunities for students now that pandemic restrictions are eased. A tenet of the district is that students do not pay for field trips. So far, our trips have been funded through our school budget. In order to continue these wonderful learning opportunities, our family council has decided to prioritize fundraising. We will be selling pies for Thanksgiving meals. Keep an eye out for the order form next week, and please join us to plan the fundraiser on Monday, November 7 in our library at 2:20.
Lost & Found
It is the first week of November, and we already have 45 items in our Lost & Found. Lots of hoodies! Please check the pictures in the folder and either have your child pick up their items from the office or send an email with which item(s) are yours. Any items not retrieved by the December break will be donated.
Field Trip
We loved seeing the Garifuna Collective at the Chandler Center for the Arts! Almost the whole district was present, singing and dancing together to the Afro-Carribean music.
STEM News
This week, primary grade students began designing bird masks using particular adaptations. Intermediate students used Makey Makeys and LittleBits to learn about circuits and how to use them for desired outcomes. Even Mr. Ray got in on the fun!
