Service Unit 627 Newsletter
October 2025
Welcome to October!
Hi Everyone! Happy October, and welcome to scouting year 2025-2026. My name is Nikki, and I'm the Service Unit manager for Tierrasanta. This is my second year in this position, and I'm also a troop leader of a multi-level troop here in Tierrasanta. I'll send out a newsletter like this each month, it will have updates and event information attached. If anyone ever has anything to include, just email me before the 1st of each month!
During my first year in this position, my goals were to increase communication, and re-introduce more service unit events. I re-introduced bi-monthly leader meetings, sent out updates via email and facebook, and responded to texts or emails promptly. Last year we had the VIP & me dance, as well as a very successful joint camporee with max attendance. My goals for my second year are to have three Service Unit events with MAX participation from Girls and adult volunteers, build a Service Unit team of volunteers, and to build more of a service unit community by increasing attendance at events/outings.
Just a few housekeeping things-
- Please be sure to double check that your rosters are up to date and correct in MYGS. Make sure your meeting place and time is correct as well as girls' grades and adult contact info.
- PLEASE join our Service Unit Band page! I got a lot of feedback last year that many people are navigating away from Facebook, so I will use Band as the primary source of communication this year!
I'm so excited for this scouting year, it's going to be fantastic. If anyone ever needs anything, please don't hesitate to reach out. My goal is to get back to people within 48 hours, but I'm typically pretty quick to respond.
Can't wait to meet everyone at all of our events throughout the year!

Fall Product Sales have begun!!
The Fall Product Program gives troops and individually registered members (IRMs) the chance to earn startup funds for the new Girl Scout membership year by reaching out to friends and family and asking for their support through the purchase of nuts, chocolates and magazines, and more. All proceeds stay in San Diego and Imperial counties to benefit local Girl Scouts.
Our service unit does not have a fall product program coordinator, we will be supported in interim by Council staff through email support by contacting Customer Care with questions. Girl Scout San Diego Support Contact Customer Care at customercare@sdgirlscouts.org or 619-610-0821

Welcome troops 4703, 4541, 3023, & 4699!
We have FOUR new troops in our Service Unit this year!! On October 5, Girl Scouts Madelyn Welch, Rachel and Ellie Gibson, Ava Martin, Mackenzie Torpey, Taylor Chong, and Harper and Etta Andrus (all from multiple levels) helped recruit new Girl Scouts for our Service Unit! A huge thanks to troop leaders Linda Welch, Rachel Gibson, Nicole Martin, and Kelli Torpey for helping make this event such a huge success. We can't wait to see all of our new Girl Scouts at Service Unit events this year!
Troop 3023 is a Multi Level troop looking for a co-leader! There are five 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders who are ready to start their Girl Scout journey. We're looking for a second adult to help out so they can get started. If you know someone who would be interested, please reach out to Nikki so we can get them started!
Congratulations Belle!!
Congratulations to our newest Girl Scout Gold Award recipient!!
Belle Britson is a senior at Canyon Hills High School. She watched a very outdated San Diego School Safety Patrol video with her little sister who was currently in Saftey Patrol. As a video production student, Belle saw a need for a more current and up to date video. In January of 2025, Belle made her portfolio plan and pitched her idea to SDPD Youth Services Department. Her idea was recieved with much anticipation. With SDPD as her community partner, she got to work on her scripts, film planning, obtaining real life actors, and was able to make it all come to life! 140 hours is what her project took…lots of learning, planning, emails, filming, and editing to create her final video, which will be used to educate all San Diego students participating in SSP! This video will also be used to instruct school staff, parents, and new police officers that support SSP. In addition, Belle created a pamplet that coincides with the video as an instructional tool for students. (Check out the comments for a look at the pamphlet!)
Great job Belle Britson! She has earned not only her Gold Award but a Commanding Officer’s Citation Award from SDPD’s Community & Youth Services Administration, documenting her highlights and significant accomplishments.
The video was in the plans to be remade, it has taken over 10 years - and a Girl Scout came along and did it! Great job Belle, we’re so proud of you!!
