MTS Families:

We are heading into the final months of an amazing school year. We are so proud of each one of our students. MTS students are taking the Smarter Balanced Assessment from May 5 to May 23, 2025.

Smarter Balanced Assessments are annual tests in English language arts/literacy and mathematics for grades 3-8 and 11. These tests provide an academic checkup for students by measuring real-world skills like critical thinking and problem-solving.

Families, please support your child by ensuring they get a good night’s rest, eat a healthy breakfast, attend school regularly, and arrive on time. Go Kings!

SBA testing is underway and will run through May 23rd. You can support your child’s success during testing by:

  • Making sure they arrive by 8:00 am each day.

  • Encourage them to eat a healthy breakfast at home or school.

  • Helping them get a good night’s sleep so they’re well-rested.

  • Reminding them to take their time, read carefully, and do their best.

  • Cell phones should be kept at home or turned off and put away during the school day. If you call or text your student, they will not be able to respond until after testing is complete for each day.

Highlights from last month!

As we approach the end of the school year, we want to inform you that state testing has begun for our students. These assessments are an important part of our academic calendar, as they help us evaluate student progress and guide instruction.

How You Can Help Your Child Prepare:

  • Ensure your child gets plenty of rest. A good night’s sleep helps students stay focused and energized during testing.

  • Be on time. Arriving at school on time helps students start their day calmly and confidently.

  • Encourage your child. A positive attitude can make a big difference. Remind them to do their best and that you are proud of their efforts.

Please remind your child that these tests are just one way to show what they have learned this year. We are proud of the hard work they have put in and know they will do their best.

If you have any questions about testing or your child’s progress, feel free to contact us. Thank you for your continued support.

School Counseling Center

Our state graduation requirements are designed to ensure students have a solid foundation of reading, writing, math and science skills, no matter the path they choose after high school. We encourage families and students to meet regularly with their school counselors to ensure they are on track for graduation.

To be eligible to graduate at MTS, high school students must: Earn all required state and local credits (24 credits), meet one of the graduation pathways that is aligned to their High School and Beyond Plan, and successfully complete a senior portfolio, senior speech, culture project and 20 hours of community service.

Behavioral Health on Campus

Our plant teacher for the month of May is Camas. Camas teaches us about reciprocity, as plants care for people and people care for plants. We receive and we give back.

May is also recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month. It’s a time to remind ourselves that mental health is just as important as physical health - and that it’s okay to talk about our feelings, ask for help, and support one another. Together, we can promote well-being and kindness, and help create a safe, supportive environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
