MCDOT Sidewalk Repairs in Anthem
The Maricopa Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will be repairing and replacing segments of sidewalk along Gavilan Peak Parkway in Anthem beginning, Monday September 8 through mid-to late September 2025. Currently, several sidewalk panels on the east side of Gavilan Peak Parkway, between Memorial and King drives need to be replaced due to cracking. Several panels near the intersection of Gavilan Peak Parkway and Anthem Way will also be repaired during the project.
This project includes:
- Removing and replacing the sidewalk at Anthem Way and Gavilan Peak Parkway
- Closing the adjacent northbound traffic lane for the length of the project along Gavilan Peak Parkway
- Closing the sidewalk on the east side of Gavilan Peak Parkway from King Drive to Memorial Drive near Boulder Creek High School
- Cleaning up the work zone and other miscellaneous work
During the project, it is recommended that drivers allow for extra time for travel due to lane restrictions in place to accommodate sidewalk repairs. A lane closure will be in effect along Gavilan Peak Parkway during work hours. Please watch for work crews, reduce speeds and follow all traffic control signs.

Safe Routes and Safe Choices: Supporting Our Students
As more students bike, scooter, and walk to school, we want to partner with families to make every trip to and from school as safe as possible. Please take a moment to remind your child about these key safety habits:
Helmet use saves lives. A properly fitted helmet greatly reduces the risk of serious injury.
Use crosswalks the right way. Wait for crossing signals where available, walk bikes and scooters across, and make eye contact with drivers before entering the roadway.
Ride with traffic, not against it. When using bike lanes, students should always ride in the same direction as traffic to stay visible and predictable to drivers.
Stay alert and aware. Earbuds and phones should be put away during travel so students can hear traffic, crossing guard directions, and the sounds around them.
DVUSD Threat Response Process
When a threat is reported, our district uses the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) process. This research-based approach helps us assess the seriousness of a threat, support students in need, and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of our school community. The CSTAG model emphasizes early intervention, problem-solving, and keeping our campuses safe while helping students make better choices.
Together, by promoting safe routes to school and safe choices online, we can keep our students protected, aware, and ready to learn.

Your Vote Counts! Participate in the Nov. 4 Election!
The DVUSD Override, as well as a District land sale, will be placed on the upcoming mail-in ballot on Nov. 4!
We know that every DVUSD family wants to provide the best educational opportunities for their students. By casting your vote, you are letting your voice be heard on these matters!
Last mail-in election, only 9% of eligible parents turned out to vote! We encourage all parents living within the DVUSD boundaries to participate in this year's election, as these matters will directly impact your student(s).
Arizona historically ranks 49th or 50th in per-pupil spending. Overrides help school districts overcome chronic under-funding to support their students and staff.
This additional amount provides local support for instructional programs deemed important by the community. See the graph below, created by the Arizona Auditor General, explaining exactly how DVUSD's funds were spent. Of the district funds, 72.5% went directly into the classroom, with the remaining 27.5% used toward programs that support students, including transportation and food services.
The District land sale must also be voter-approved. This land sale involves approximately 19 acres of land northwest of Happy Valley Road and 83rd Avenue in Peoria. The land was originally donated by a developer and is currently unusable for DVUSD due to a lack of road access to the land.
Proceeds from the sale have limited uses, but can be applied toward items such as facilities, technology, transportation, and other infrastructure needs that benefit students.
Puppy Reading Partners Help Boost Reading Confidence at Barry Goldwater
Barry Goldwater High School is pairing up students with trained therapy dogs to help boost reading confidence and proficiency through a calm, non-judgmental listener.
