Wildcat Chat
Wildwood Elementary
June 5, 2020
Dear Wildwood Families,
As we enter the last week of our 2019-2020 school year, we have a lot to celebrate as a Wildwood Family. I am a proud principal of 535 scholars who have worked hard since day one and continue to do so in their homes while we stay safe. The efforts of families to continue learning at home have been tremendous, and I truly appreciate partnering with families to keep learning going for our scholars.
That said, I must acknowledge the recent current events that have resulted in the tragic loss of black lives: George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others. These events weigh heavily on my heart as I think about the diversity of Wildwood scholars, their families, and staff members of our Wildcat Family. We cannot achieve true justice and equality until our systems change to value, love, and celebrate the diversity of our community. As a white principal, I remain profoundly committed to this ongoing work. In collaboration other FWPS leaders, we will work to ensure that our school system is not just equitable, but actively anti-racist.
I’d like to close with words from our FWPS Superintendent, Dr. Tammy Campbell. Recently, she stated, “In this dark time, I see a flicker of hope in that the protesters are looking more like America in their diversity. It has moved from people of color being outraged and vocal to WE are outraged and vocal.” I want you to all know WE are with you at this crucial time in our history.
As always, please reach out for any support we can provide you or your scholar(s). Finish strong, Wildcats!
In partnership,
Sarah Jackson

Message From the Counselor!
Hello Wildwood Wildcats!
Hello Wildcats Ms. Davis is so very proud of all of you! I see you have been working hard and making great progress with your distance learning! As you move closer to your summer break I want you to remember to keep building kind friendships with your siblings and neighbors. First, it’s important to respect all people that means treat others the way you want to be treated. Second, if you want to play with someone reach out and join in this helps to make friends. Third, keeping friends means being kind, sharing and taking turns and making a deal in deciding which games to play Keep up the practice of using your Kelso’s Choices.
What does PAWS look like at home this week? We are all learning how to be in school, at home. How are you doing with your Zoom meetings and checking your teacher’s Website?
Which brings me to PAWS
Our second Letter in our PAWS is “S”
S is the letter of today which stands For:
Show Respect : Remember to show respect online and obey online etiquette. To ensure everyone has a supportive learning environment, your actions online are being monitored. Remember the “Golden Rule”. Treat others the way you would want to be treated. Everyone deserves respect. Set boundaries for yourself. Mom and dad may be working from home. It is important that you remember to set quiet time hours, on your daily schedule. Where you do not disturb your parents. Unless it is absolutely necessary. Showing respect is always an expectation.
Compassion : Compassion is empathy in actions! This means doing kind things for others to show we care about them. When we think about others' feeling or try to understand what some else is feeling we are showing empathy towards them. How do we know if we are showing others empathy? One way is to look at their face and body for clues or think of a kind thing to say. Be sure to think about what their point of view might be as they might have different feelings about things than you.
A Family Activity - Sing along contest : This is a singing game. Each family member sings along to their favorite songs with background music. While others vote on who they want to win. Make it fun do whatever works for your family be creative and use your imagination!
Exercise Daily: Stay committed to doing some form of daily exercise that you enjoy! Dancing, riding a bike, walking are all good ways to stay active and healthy as we practice social distancing.
Kelso Choices: Remember when you are home with your family and conflict may arise. It is not only about how you feel. It is also about how they feel, put yourself in the other person’s shoes. Use your Kelso Choices to talk it out with a family member or find a learning space make a deal, share and take turns when small problems show up.
Toolbox: Your toolbox are the supports you have available to you to help you solve problems and work through conflicts.
Question: What is in your toolbox today?
Answer: Today we talked about building strong friendships:
For example using the “Golden Rule” to treat people the way you want to be treated. Joining in games to make friends and showing compassion to keep healthy friendships.
Positive Self- talk: I am a good friends to others. I am a brilliant learner and I can do my very best each day!
My final message to you: We are here for you all the way to the finish line. You got this!
Stay happy, calm and healthy,
Ms.Davis
