Dear 6th Grade Families,

Congratulations on your child completing their first trimester of middle school! Friday marked the end of this trimester, and we’re excited to begin the second. This week will also be our last week of school before fall break, and we hope your family is looking forward to a restful break ahead.

We’d like to take a moment to thank you for your continued support in helping your child stay prepared and organized. Ensuring that they have a functional binder, organized folders, a charged iPad, and all their daily supplies makes a significant difference in their school experience. We appreciate all that you do to help your child succeed.

As we conclude this trimester, we’ve noticed an increase in reports of bullying incidents. When a report is made, we follow a careful and thorough process to investigate. This involves:

  1. Speaking with the student who feels they’ve experienced bullying to understand their perspective.
  2. Interviewing other students or staff members who may have witnessed the incidents.
  3. Discussing the matter with the student who is accused of bullying.

Throughout this process, we consider all available information and evidence. If we determine that bullying has occurred, we put measures in place to ensure your child’s safety and to address the situation appropriately. We will also reach out to you directly to inform you of your child’s involvement and our actions to ensure their well-being.

While we prioritize minimizing any disruption to your child’s education, they may occasionally be called out of class as part of this investigation process. We strive to complete these discussions as efficiently as possible so that your child can return to learning promptly.

If you have any questions or concerns about the trimester transition or our processes around student safety, please feel free to reach out. We’re here to support your child’s growth and safety as we move into the next trimester.

Thank you for your partnership and support!

Warm regards,

Ms. Brunson

Black SonRISE Week 5 Recap Black SonRISE Week 5 Recap

Greetings Fellow Parents and Caregivers,

Thanks to many of you for joining us for a touching and meaningful final session of the fall this morning. We concluded our theme of community engagement with a recognition and celebration of women leaders. Strong women fill leadership roles across our society, from Washington D.C. to Evanston.

Police Chief Stewart was our guest speaker for the session, giving an impassioned call to action for our Risers to believe in themselves and their capacity to accomplish anything they set their minds to. She stressed the importance of their civic engagement, insisting that they are not too young to understand and learn about issues affecting their community.

The Risers then shared their appreciation for the moms and strong women in their lives, and many moms shared their perspectives on raising Black boys into leaders of tomorrow.

As we conclude our time together, the facilitating dads and I want you to know how much we enjoyed spending time with your Risers. We anticipate reconvening for a winter/spring session after the holiday break.

Again, thank you for trusting your children with us.
