Are you interested in being a leader and helping our incoming class of 9th graders? Do you want to make a difference and have fun? Then being a Link Crew Leader is for YOU! Please see the attached QR code to apply. The deadline is Friday, May 1st.

WHAT’S LINK CREW? Link Crew is an orientation program to welcome our 9th graders so that they get off to a great start at Blaine High School. You, as a Link Crew Leader, would play a crucial role in that because you can share what you’ve learned through the years you’ve been here so far. Along with other 11th and 12th graders, you will be trained in how to work with incoming 9th graders. You and a partner will have a small group of about ten 9th graders that you will guide, mentor, and lead through the year.

Celebrating American Indian Month: "Mni Sóta Makoce" Collaboration

While National Native American Heritage Month is recognized in November, May holds deep historical significance in our state. In 1916, the second Saturday in May was first proclaimed American Indian Day; today, Minnesota continues this tradition by recognizing May as American Indian Month, celebrating the rich heritage and culture of Native communities.

To honor this occasion, we are proud to announce a special t-shirt project designed in collaboration with Tina Vinton (American Indian Education Advisor – Blaine Cluster), Holly Boisjolie (Business & Marketing Teacher), and Blaine senior Karma Phuntsok.

The Story Behind the Design: The shirt features the phrase “Mni Sóta Makoce.” The name Minnesota comes from the Dakota words Mni Sóta, meaning “clear water,” often translated as “the land where the water reflects the skies.”

In addition to the Dakota name, the design includes:

  • Dakota Floral Art: Traditional patterns reflecting the natural beauty of the region.

  • Land Acknowledgment: A formal tribute to honor the history and Indigenous people connected to this land.

How to Order: We invite our families to join us in celebrating American Indian Month by purchasing a shirt. Place your order HERE.

All orders will be available for pickup at Blaine High School. An email will be sent to those who placed an order confirming the pickup date and time.

Thank you for supporting this student-led collaboration and for helping us honor the history and vibrant culture of the Dakota people and all Native communities in Minnesota. If you have any questions about the order, reach out to Holly Boisjolie at holly.boisjolie@ahschools.us.

We are proud to share that Blaine High School senior Elrad Asante, a student in the Business Internship class, was named a National Finalist and earned 2nd place ($500 scholarship) in the 4th annual America’s Next Great Intern competition hosted by Rubin.

Elrad competed as part of the coursework in the Business Internship program, where students engaged in real-world professional scenarios designed to build career readiness and workplace skills. The competition challenged students from across the country to demonstrate strong communication, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making through three applied tasks: writing a professional internship inquiry email, developing high-level questions for NBA executive Scott Kaufman-Ross, and responding to an ethical dilemma involving job opportunities and professional integrity.

Elrad’s work stood out among hundreds of students nationwide, showcasing strong communication skills, thoughtful analysis, and professionalism throughout all components of the competition.

We are excited to celebrate this outstanding accomplishment and the national recognition Elrad has brought to Blaine High School, the Business Internship program, and the Anoka-Hennepin School District.

Reminder: No school Friday, May 1, 2026 Reminder: No school Friday, May 1, 2026

The district shared updates with families in September about a calendar change for the 2025-26 school year after the School Board amended it at its regular meeting Aug. 25.

What it means: Students will not attend school on May 1. This will be a professional development day for school staff.

Why it matters: The move was necessary due to support instruction and advanced placement (AP) testing for high school students.

Suspect Nerf Wars or Senior Assassin games? Time to take action. Suspect Nerf Wars or Senior Assassin games? Time to take action.

District schools have been alerted through information shared by students and parents that confirms that students in our community are participating in the “Nerf Wars” or the “Senior Assassin” game, activities that are self-organized by students. These games are not sanctioned or sponsored by the school district. Careless participation in these games can lead to dangerous situations for students.

Why it matters: The district is alerting families in an effort to maintain a focus on learning in school while also eliminating community concerns regarding unsafe driving and dangerous activity.

The basics: “Nerf Wars” or “Senior Assassin” games are played across the nation and in our communities by students, typically in the spring.

  • This game involves forming teams and paying a fee to participate in a tournament style competition in which competitors are eliminated by “tagging” them with a nerf gun, air soft gun, or by other means consistent with rules of that particular game.

  • Depending on the number of students, the “cash prize” can be significant.

  • These games are not an official school activity nor are they sanctioned by the district.

Not allowed at school: Students are not allowed to participate in the Senior Assassin game. Replica and/or toy weapons are not allowed on school property.

  • Students who violate school policies are subject to consequences consistent with district policy.

  • Law enforcement is aware and alert to enforcing traffic laws and safe vehicle operation as a result of this game.

Safety first: Even though these games use toy weapons that are relatively harmless, there has been a student death in another community that occurred as students were playing a similar game while driving. Parents and guardians are encouraged to reinforce safe driving practices with their children to ensure their safety and the safety of their friends.

Community members who witness careless driving or unsafe activity should contact law enforcement for proper follow-up.

On Saturday, May 2, our varsity baseball team has the opportunity to play Mounds View at Target Field, giving our players a chance to compete in a big league environment and represent Blaine in a special way.

The Twins take on the Blue Jays at 1:10 PM, and our game will begin approximately 30 to 40 minutes after that game concludes.

We are selling tickets for $20, which include admission to both the Twins game and our game. These are 300 level seats for the Twins game, and fans are welcome to move closer for the high school game afterward. Even if you plan to only attend one game, or just the Twins game, this ticket is required for entry into Target Field.

All proceeds from ticket sales help support the Blaine baseball program.

If you enjoy Twins baseball, this is a great opportunity to catch a game. If you have had one of our players in class, or just want to support a group of student athletes who represent Blaine the right way, we would love to have you there. Here is the link to purchase tickets:
