9th Grade ELA Spotlight
Our 9th grade students are launching their first unit by exploring the essential question: Who suffers when a crime is committed? This driving question will guide their reading, discussions, and writing as they analyze texts and connect ideas to real-world issues.
Message From the Principal
Dear Marauders Families,
Last week at Mitchell High School, we focused on enhancing safety and security as students and staff received updated pictures and ID cards and participated in our first lockdown drill. I would like to extend my appreciation to the students and staff for taking this drill seriously which led to extremely productive exercise. If your student did not get their picture taken, please be on the lookout for picture re-take day information. Students demonstrated commendable effort and positive attitudes during the Fall STAR Benchmark Assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics. We also celebrated a victory for our C Squad Volleyball Team, who defeated the Pueblo South Colts.
Looking ahead, students will participate in a mandatory Future Ready lesson on Monday titled "Exploring Postsecondary Options." This lesson aligns with our school’s vision of preparing all students for college and career readiness. Parents are encouraged to discuss these lessons with their children and have ongoing dialogue about their interests and how Mitchell High School and the D11 community can best support their dreams and goals.
Additionally, the final Monday of each month marks is designated as College and Career Day. We invite everyone—students, staff, and families—to wear their favorite college or career-themed attire. On Tuesday, our partners from Instructional Empowerment will be on campus to conduct an instructional rigor appraisal aimed at enhancing high-quality instruction, student engagement, and promoting student agency in learning.
As always, I appreciate the partnership of all of our stakeholders. Let’s continue to build momentum and make this another great week at Mitchell High School. Get those WINS!
-Principal Smith

Schedule Change Requests
Student Schedules are ready to view in PowerSchool!
Schedules change requests can be made for the first two weeks of school. The last day to make changes to schedules is Wednesday, August 27, 2024. Changes will only be made to meet the graduation requirements. For example, you are enrolled in a class that you have already taken and passed. OR you are a senior and need a math credit, but you do not have a math class on your schedule.
Schedules will NOT be changed for reasons such as: you want to be in a different section because that is where your friends are. OR you don't like the elective you were given.
If you need to make a change to your schedule, please make an appointment with your counselor. All appointments are confirmed through your email.

Attendance & Discipline Update
At Mitchell High School, student safety and academic success are our top priorities. We are committed to maintaining a secure, welcoming environment where students can thrive.
📈 Attendance Goals
We’re aiming for 92%+ Average Daily Attendance (ADA). To support this, we’re offering:
- Incentives for improved attendance
- Personalized support for students at risk
- Community outreach to reduce chronic absenteeism (missing 10%+ of the school year)
Random hallway sweeps help ensure students are in class. Repeated truancy may result in In-School Detention (ISD) or Out-of-School Suspension (OSS).
📝 Attendance Reminders
- Closed Campus: All 9th & 10th graders must remain on campus during the school day.
- Open Lunch: Juniors & Seniors may leave campus with ID. Privilege may be revoked for tardiness.
- Absences: Must be excused within 48 hours.
- Extended Absences: Require pre-approval and a completed absence form.
📵 Cell Phone & Tech Policy
To maintain focus and privacy:
- No personal tech use during class or in private areas.
- Devices must be stored in Yondr pouches.
- Repeated violations lead to escalating consequences, including suspension.
