Join us TONIGHT! Join us TONIGHT!

Tonight! Tuesday, November 4, 6:30 pm

Experience an evening that opens a window into the depth and living impulse of Waldorf education.

Through a talk by Christine Benson, Curriculum Mentor, shared activity, and conversation, we’ll explore how this education nurtures the whole child—intellectually, emotionally, and practically—to foster free and independent thinking, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning. Discover the academic, artistic, and practical tools of the classroom that nurture the children's capacities to meet the world with confidence, creativity, and compassion.

Workshops include:

  • Form Drawing & Classroom Movement with Aurilia McNamara, 2nd Grade Teacher
  • Painting with Anyel Aguilar, 3rd Grade Teacher
  • Singing & Instruments with Cordero Juncal, Music Teacher

Join us and bring a friend on Tuesday evening! This event is free and open to our whole Ashland community. Any families interested in The Siskiyou School or Waldorf education are highly encouraged to attend.

Help us get to the Bowmer! We'd like to invite our grandparents and grand-friends to a fundraising opportunity to help fund the Winter Assembly at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Angus Bowmer Theater.

We'd love to be able to invite all of our friends, family members, and community to watch the Winter Assembly with us. In order to accommodate all our friends, we'd like to rent the Bowmer Theater from OSF. However, the cost of renting the space is beyond our current budget.

If you'd like to help us open the doors to a larger audience for the Winter Assembly, please click the link below and donate $300 to our fund. In exchange, we're happy to offer you 4 reserved seats in the theatre along with recognition of your help in the Winter Assembly fundraising. Thank you!

Our Gingerbread House is such a sweet Winter Faire tradition, where the children have a chance to shop for loved ones with the help of a 7th grade elf helper. We need many more items to fill our Gingerbread House. Please bring in your new or gently used items to our Office Manager Amy, in the reception area. Popular items include: jewelry, children’s toys, clean games with all the pieces, art kits, kitchen items, gift sets, crystals, window hangings, home decor, pottery and small pieces of art. This is the perfect chance to regift that candle or birthday gift you’ll never use! Think of things you would want your child to buy for you or their siblings. We are not accepting clothing or shoe donations this year. Thank you!

Greetings from the Sequioa Rose Kindergarten,

During the month of October, the children have wet felted and sewn pumpkins, decorated lovely white pumpkins that were kindly donated with tissue paper, as well as made Sequioa Cone Gnomes with cones from our kinderyard, beeswax, wool felt hats and a wool beard if desired. From our very own garden, we harvested cucumbers, nasturtiums, tomatoes, green beans, collard greens, acorn and butternut squash for Soup Day.

At the start of the month, the children heard then acted out the story of the Little Round Red House with No Doors and a Star Inside (can you guess what it is?), as well as heard, enjoyed as a puppet show and acted out the story of The Pumpkin Child in class. They enjoy participating in plays in class where the magic and understanding of words and literature come alive and are made clear.

Circle time is one of the most important times of the day, where we participate in movement that supports the children's development and integration of their lower senses, which grows the capacity for higher learner. It benefits the children's integration into the school day as they starting the day together as a class community. Circle themes inspire children's play. Recent visitors have commented on how engaged the children are during circle time, singing and moving together. It is a gift for their development to gain balance, comfort and capacity in such a joyful, playful, and supportive movement exploration. Learning to work, play and sing together as a class community will further the work that each child does in growing their capacities and independence and in turn, inspires and supports the growth of the whole class. They learn vicariously through each other's lessons and growth opportunities as well as their own exploration in a supportive social environment.

At the beginning of October, we welcomed our WECAN site visitor and recently received a positive supportive report that will further the growth of the program and the support of the kindergarten teachers. It is exciting that our beloved kindergarten program is moving towards accreditation, and we will share more when we are able. Thank you all for your continued support of the kindergarten!

Happy Harvest Wishes,

Ms. Caterina

Siskiyou School Chess Club: November

Good evening everyone. As I mentioned in the Tuesday Notice on 10/21, even though Chess Club doesn't officially begin until after Winter Break, I was hoping to offer a session in November. That date will be Friday, November 14th.

This will give returning students a chance to reconnect and give prospective students a chance to see if they would like to give Chess Club a try this year. As always, we will begin with a structured lesson and some chess puzzles, before moving to practicing skills/playing.

We will meet in the Math Room from 12:30 -1:45, so please also remember to pack an extra snack/lunch for your child that day.

Chess Club is for grades 2-8 and will be $12 for this session. If your student plans on attending next Friday please email me at dustin.monda@siskiyouschool.org so I can have a better sense of how to organize both the classroom and the lesson.

Thank you, Mr. Monda

Siskiyou parent Annie Macleod (Georgia 6th, Wilder 1st) is a writer, musician, and performer. She and her childhood best friend, Julie Lake, fellow mom and actor in Orange is the New Black on Netflix, wrote a two-woman show that they took to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, where it was met with critical acclaim.

They've chosen Ashland for the show's US premiere. Annie and Julie would be honored for parents of the Siskiyou School community to attend the show Forget-Me-Not, November 14 (Fri) & 15 (Sat) 7pm at White Rabbit in the plaza downtown. (Due to grown-up stuff, this is an adult-only event).

The show was written by moms, for moms, about motherhood, creativity, and the transformative power of female friendship.

On Sunday 11-1p (White Rabbit), Annie & Julie will host a workshop for moms who are creatives, or as they call them, Artist-Mothers. Whether you paint, write, sing, dance, or simply want to reconnect with your creative spark, come join a circle of warm and inspiring fellow mamas who want to bring their artistic dreams to life.
