Western Michigan University

by Skylar Graham

Could Western Michigan be the school for you? On October 28, 2022, the Senior Seminar Class had Mr. Colin McCaw from Western Michigan University come into class to show students that Western is an option. McCaw talked about the different programs that Western offered and how the size of the school is an advantage to students. The school isn’t so big that you feel lost in the crowd or just another student, but you also have the big school advantages in funding and a variety of programs. He made sure to emphasize why Western was different from other schools, and what advantages a student attending has.

I think that it is important for colleges to distinguish themselves from other universities. McCaw made sure to encourage students to find a school that fits their comfort level and makes sure that when they attend college they feel like they are seen. He said that too many students feel like they just sink into the background of college because they choose a school that doesn't fit their personality. I would hate to get into college and find out that I have chosen the wrong college for me, which is why I am grateful for all of the opportunities I have had with visiting colleges. Also, I have had guidance from people around me telling me to visit campuses to find my fit.

Many kids don't get the opportunity to speak to college recruiters the way that the Senior Seminar class has had, which makes me grateful for my school hosting a course like this so I can understand the different values of colleges and the touring of campuses. For the next generations of students, I would recommend taking this course to listen to speakers like McCaw to listen to the different advantages and disadvantages of colleges.

Cheyenne Sabo

by Penelope Spencer

Cheyenne Sabo is a freshman at Dryden schools. She has been going to Dryden for four years. Cheyenne says her favorite thing about Dryden “is the people, everyone here is always so nice and welcoming. When I first moved to this school system, I had no problem making friends and never had. I love this school system because of that.” She used to be a part of Color Me Green and an after-school art club. Outside of school, she likes to hang out with friends and play on her VR. She does not have any plans for after high school, except that she wants to move to California. She also wants everyone to know that she is fifteen years old, her favorite color is lilac, she loves to draw, she loves to sing, and she also loves to play video games.
