Dear MPS Community Members,

This past Monday, I was grateful and humbled to have been named the permanent Superintendent of Medford Public Schools. Throughout my 29 years in MPS as an administrator, teacher, and even former Medford student, I'm consistently reminded of our bright young minds, incredible educators, and passionate community members.

Serving the past year as Interim Superintendent has allowed me to see first-hand the brilliance of our students and the dedication of our staff members. We have plenty of things to work on as a district, but I am greatly encouraged by the progress we are making and thankful for the opportunity to serve in a community where education and engagement are at the forefront.

The first week of February marked National School Counseling Week, where we recognize and celebrate our school counselors for the essential role they play in supporting students’ academic success, social-emotional well-being, and future planning. Their compassion and dedication help ensure every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive. We are deeply grateful for the impact they make each day in our schools.

In addition to School Counseling Week, it's Super Bowl week! My family and I spend our Sundays watching the Patriots like many in Massachusetts, and this weekend will be no different. I've got the Pats winning 24 - 17 over the Seahawks on Sunday in a close game.

Enjoy the game and stay warm this weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Galusi

MPS Recognizes Black History Month MPS Recognizes Black History Month

Black History Month
zoom_out_map

With the calendar turning to February, Medford Public Schools is proud to recognize Black History Month, where we honor the achievements, resilience, and contributions of Black people whose leadership and advocacy have enhanced our world.

Not only does 2026 mark the 250th Anniversary of America's independence, but it's also is the 100th celebration of Black History month, founded by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH). During Black History Month and every month, we commit to reflecting on history, uplifting the student voice, and reaffirming our shared commitment to equity and Belonging. May this month inspire a renewed commitment to ensuring everyone in our local and global community feels seen, valued, and supported.

Medford High School Building Project Update Medford High School Building Project Update

MHS Building Project

Earlier this week, the Educational Plan for the Medford High School Building project was approved by the Medford School Committee. The Educational Plan, serves as a reflection on the current way instruction is provided and envisions learning without those barriers in school experience students truly deserve. It is one of many key submissions due to the MSBA by the end of the month (Slide 11).

This upcoming Wednesday will see the Medford Comprehensive High School Building Committee review cost estimates of the design alternatives presented last month. The estimates shared on Wednesday are not final prices, and the cost will likely vary depending on what the final design option looks like. Visit Here to view the design alternatives from last month's meeting.

Best Buddies MHS

During Monday's meeting of the Medford School Committee Meeting, we had the honor of hosting multiple student groups during the Mustang Moment!

First, Junior Norah Berson and Sophomores Savannah Brazell & Katherine Beagan shared their experiences from being in the MHS Best Buddies program, an inclusive club for students with and without disabilities. During Best Buddies meetings held twice a month, members attend group activities, spend time with their buddy, and create lasting friendships. Some events they've had this year include baking cookies, making friendship bracelets, and trick-or-treating through the halls of the High School!

Project 351

Additionally, we also had the distinct pleasure of listening to 8th Grade students Jovie LaFluer (Andrews) & Allie Materazzo (McGlynn) reflect on their experiences attending Project 351! Founded in 2011, Project 351 engages eighth graders representing Massachusetts’ 351 cities and towns in a five-year Leadership Continuum for skill development, civic engagement, career-readiness, and transformative social impact. Jovie & Allie shared their favorite moments being in the program and spoke about the new friends they have made!

I'd also like to congratulate two Grade 8 students for earning an invitation to play in the Northeast District Regional Junior Music Festival. Cello instrumentalist Sophie Levene (Andrews) and Trombone player Adam Kimball (McGlynn) will play with other middle schoolers across the region at the Junior Festival Concert on Saturday, March 14 at the Galvin Middle School in Wakefield, Massachusetts. We are so proud of this terrific accomplishment!
