The Yellowjacket Way
At Sheridan Middle School, we follow The Yellowjacket Way—our schoolwide behavior expectations that help students be successful in every setting. The Yellowjacket Way focuses on being Responsible, Respectful, and Ready at all times, whether in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, or on the bus. By practicing these expectations, our students build a positive learning environment where everyone can grow and succeed.
Bell to Bell, No Cell
Starting the first day of school, all students in grades K-12 must keep personal devices powered off and out of sight from the time they arrive until dismissal - including class changes, lunch, and breaks.
Devices include:
- Cell phones
- Smartwatches
- Wireless earbuds/headphones
- Tablets or laptops not issued by the district
- Gaming devices
- Digital cameras/recorders
- Any Bluetooth-connected or media-capable device
Thank you for partnering with us to support a safe, focused, learning environment for every student!
Dress Code Reminders
We want all students to feel comfortable, safe, and ready to learn. Parents and students share the responsibility for choosing school-appropriate attire. Clothing should not pose a safety risk, cause distractions, or disrupt the learning environment.
Please avoid wearing items such as: midriff-baring tops, shoulder straps less than 3 inches wide, short skirts/shorts (more than 4 inches above the knee), see-through garments, pajamas or lounge wear, visible undergarments, offensive or suggestive messages, sagging pants, or clothing with excessive rips above the knee. Headwear, hoods, sunglasses, and shoes with cleats or wheels are also not permitted.
For a full list of dress code guidelines, please refer to page 120 of the Student Handbook, available online for parent access. Thank you for helping us maintain a positive and distraction-free environment for all students.
Student Badges
Every student should have their badge front and center all day long, showing off their SMS spirit. Need a replacement? Stop by the office before school or during lunch to pick one up for $5 and stay ready to represent!

Honoring America 250 & Arkansas 250
The year 2026 marks a monumental milestone—250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Across the nation, America 250 is a nonpartisan, multi-year initiative dedicated to commemorating this occasion with reflection, celebration, and the creation of a lasting legacy for future generations.
Right here in Arkansas, we’re proud to play a part in the commemoration through the Arkansas 250 Commission, established by the governor in 2024. The commission is organizing a year-long series of events—from educational programming to historical markers at sites like the Old State House, Buffalo National River, and Crater of Diamonds—so that communities across our state can both celebrate our shared history and look ahead toward the future.
Check out the websites below to see how you can get involved in celebrating our nation's 250th birthday!
